I finally got to put him in the "Big" tank!!!!! He's happily swimming the entire length of the 125. I thought he would go crazy in the 40G breeder during QT.

I've done the research and I know they are one of the harder tangs. I'm prepared. I do believe this is the most expensive fish I ever bought, lol. I looked at it for a month before I even bought it. I used that month to research and make sure I was up to the challenge. I didn't want to "impulse buy" just because he was beautiful.

Enjoy!

They might have thought he would go fast or hoping someone would want to rescue him.

That is one awesome fish. I have seen a few at my LFS, and they went fast. Enjoy!

Achilles Tangs really are beautiful. As far as care; Regals, Powder Browns, Powder Blues, and Naso's fallow in close suit. Once established, they'll tend to take over and really show their personalities as well as how territorial they truly are. Sweet fish, for sure and it looks terrific.

Right now the achilles has an ich outbreak. He is being treated in the QT tank with the other 5 fish that were in the 125. I can't believe he got ich even after I QT'd him, grrr. I'm using hyposalinity to cure the ich. I have copper safe and a few other meds, but I prefer to use the hypo method rather then meds if possible. He is looking better and has very few ich specks left on him. None of the other fish seem to be infected. I'm just treating them all for 6 weeks or more so the reef tank will be clear of all traces of ich. (no hosts= end of ich life cycle)
I knew he was an ich magnet, it was a chance I was willing to take. I still wouldn't give him up and I'm not sorry I bought it. That's the fist thing my husband asked...."are you sorry you bought that fish now?" Nope......I'd do it again. :)
On a good note, I'm using the next 6 weeks to set up a bigger tank and finish cycling the 100 lbs of LR.

He is territorial. The whole tank is his, lol. I can just hear him saying "this is mine, and this is mine, and this is mine, and don't even think about it "cause that is mine too!" I love his personality. He covers the entire tank front, back, top, and bottom. My tank must have been VERY boreing before he got in there.

Sad to say, he lost the battle with the ich outbreak. I knew they were prone to it when I bought it. It was a chance I took and I will not do it again.

Thank you, he was beautiful.

im very sorry to hear that .is a sad loss indeed.:angel1:
if you decide to try again later on steps I take for all new irrivals whether in QT or main tank.I always dose the tanks with melafix for the first 3 days.in 4 1/2 yrs I have not lost one single fish(new arrivals) that were treated with melafix when added to the tanks I have however lost 50% of those fish I neglected to use melafix when adding.I use it more as a stress reducer so far it has been highly effective in reducing ich outbreaks caused by stress
