k....so here is the deal.....for a while I had macros growing like crazy.....they were everywhere.....

but...I also had lots of red slime algae because I was using a pair of Home Depot NO bulbs.....

when I replaced these Home Depot bulbs (with 50/50s) the red slime went away (like....within 2 days) but about a week later the macros started to go away......since then (2 months) they are all but gone......

so my question is, what wave length light are people using over macros?

I have two 55W PCs, one 'daylight' and one 'actinic' on my seahorse tank and as you can see from the pictures, the macro grows like crazy.

I also have a Lights of America 65K fixture over a fuge that grows caulerpa.

I have C. Serrulata in a 5 and 10 gallon tanks under normal output and it is growing too.

I'm stumped....basically, you want to try to keep in and around the 65K area, but again, I can grow the stuff under anything.

Are you sure there aren't any OTHER variables within your system that may be 'out of whack'?

alk, salinity, calcium, PH....they are all right on...... (in fact none of this stuff has changed since the begining.....I always kept on top of it....)....the only thing that has changed is that I swapped out the 4500K bulbs of 50/50s....

does the stuff grow under 10K light?

Using a couple of the 2900K power compact flood lamps here in two separate fuges and macros grow like CRAZY for us.

I use a plant grow light on mine and they do great. You might try removing them to a remote tank and then dosing them with iron. Good luck!
