I got three of these snail sitting on my front glass? looking for an ID
They have all been stationary since the light came on and have not moved.
Size 1/2 to 3/4 inch.
I have bought many snails none of which look like these guys?

My Nassarius which are similar in shell NEVER sit on the class this long.

THANKS

Those do look like nass snails to me. I've got several that sit on the glass all the time :)

Im no expert but possibly a worn out bumblebee. Mine are very slow moving and seem to sit in same spots for days. Its similar shape. However bumblebees are supposed to max out at a half inch.

Yep that's how mine look as well. I really like those guys. They seem to be very good workers even though some sources say they can eat some of the beneficial stuff in the tank.

Well so far I've had the 4 for about 6 months and I've seen no damage done at all. However they do love the lil piles of frozen foods I put down for my Scooter :)

Everything I have read about them says they are marine safe. Also the people at keys told me they were safe too.I just have some real basic mushrooms and they haven't been touched. I know that's not really close to a reef yet but just my two cents.

Fish Dad I'm pretty sure that is NOT a bumble bee snail in your pic. However I am sure it's a type of Nassarius snail as I also have several of those, just like the ones in your pic.http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/01/25/mymaqe7a.jpg

Have found several more - actually match the description and characteristics of Whelks I have found looking throughout the web. These snails are more concealed in the shell and only come out or move at night and very slow. Matching description in the link - Melev's Reef - What is a whelk? (http://www.melevsreef.com/id/whats_a_whelk.html) I do have Nassarius snails also, my Nassarius snails are fast and very light colored, also have a large tail that drags behind them. I have also seen one of my bumble bee snails the other night, still looking great. Bottom line these turned out to be Whelks and are NOT tank safe as they will attack other snails and clams. So it the sump or the dump for these guys....

looks like hawaiian strombus snails to me...great snails and they readily breed in aquariums.

Hey Thanks for the reply Hawaiian Strombus sound like a cool little snail – hoping your right.
This whole thing is very confusing, these guys are never moving, only move at night, appear stuck on the glass. Seems to be some more differences in the shells and eyes on a whelk vs. a Hawaiian Strombus (columbellids) that could be compared if they came out of their shells.
I will do some more reviewing at next capture.
