I WAS JUST WANDERING WHAT THE CLEAR FILM STUFF IS ON TOP OF MY WATER ITS SORTA GROSS

That crud you are looking at is nutrients, proteins, DOC's, whatever you want call it... that's the crud skimmers remove, they tend to collect in large concentrations at the top of the water colum, also why surface skimming of the tank is so crucial.

You can remove the majority of that stuff manually by dropping a paper towel flat onto the water surface and quickly snatching it up and and out of the tank, repeat as needed.
