I have totally fallen in love with two of the most beautiful clams I have ever seen, either in the LFSs or in pics on the web. They are both small... one is barely over an inch and the other is about 3 inches. I wanted to get them SO badly. I asked how much they were, just out of curiosity ($60 and $90). They owner of the store was telling me how she was certain that I could keep them under my PCs, saying that she keeps clams under PCs at home.

Oh my gosh, it took EVERY bit of self control I had to walk out of the store without them. I haven't ever wanted anything for my tank more than these two beauties.

Question #1: Is it true that "baby" clams are more dependant on target feedings than light?
Question #2: If I got them, wouldn't their colors likely change/fade under PCs?
Question #3: Since it would only be temporary time in the 10g, would they regain their color once moved to the 20g under MHs?

I apologize if I come across as obsessed... well, I am... but I would go back and snatch them up in a heartbeat as soon as they open tomorrow if you guys think it would be okay.

Tracy,
do you know what type of clams they were, were they blue or like a tannish gold. this is a good rule of thumb to use when picking a clam. the brighter more vivid the color the more they are gonna require good light. and for the clam that was 1 inch I would not recommend it. that small they are hard to keep and rely heavily on good nutrient in the water. I would hold off until you have the larger tank witht he better lighting. I would not risk it and lose such a beautifull critter. crocea, maxima are pretty light dependant and the smaller they are the more they rely on nutrients inthe water. anything under 3 inches is scarry to me (in my opinion).

AWWW! :smt088

I trust you... I will not get them, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't TERRIBLY disappointed. I guess I knew I shouldn't, but I HAD to ask! ;)

BTW, they are both mostly blue. The small one was "crackled" with cream, purple and orange markings. The larger one also had purple and orange, but it was more of a "paint running" effect. This description doesn't even remotely begin to convey their beauty... it's one of those you'd have to see it to believe it things!
