Well, after having this new system up and cycled for a couple of months, I can't think of a theme for it, so I'm going to shut it down, sell off the equipment and patch that 6' hole in the wall. Had a tank and hole there for 23 years. Only been a reef setup since 1998.
I'll still keep the 240 gallon going, though.

I was, but the payoff wasn't worth the work. Couldn't find a lot of photosynthetic softies that I liked. Shame cause the system practically runs itself.
Looking forward to just running one tank too. I might just keep the equipment and sell the tanks.

Tom, did your slippers fall off on the way down the basement stairs and bump your head? What planet did you land on this morning? Maybe, you need some reef counseling from all of us. You know if you shut that tank down and close that hole up you might as well buy another house as it will never be the same. Don't do anything yet until I come over this week. I will bring some sniffing salt to snap you back.

Keep the tank and go with a giant clam theme.

Tom-
You sure you want to take it all down and cover the hole????
So many other options, especially with a tank that practically runs itself.
Giant clam, FOWLR, Macro tank.......maybe small sharks or a show sized queen trigger?????? So many other possibilities that require so much less work than tearing it all apart and patching it all back up.
So many other possibilities.

Whoa whoa what the heck. You can't take it down until I get to see it! What about a terrarium? Think about the possibilities. You could get one of those cool fog machines.

Well I actually understand whe're your comeing from Tom. I personally really enjoy only havering one tank to worry about now. It's easy for people to say Noooo ! But how many are helping you do the water changes and donating money for the electric bill. I love your set up but completely understand. Tho you could do a sweet predator tank with it. If it was me I would keep the equipment ,leave the stand in place and hang a big picture over the hole. If you don't miss it in six months patch the wall ! Then enjoy the extra time you'll have with just one tank. :oldman:

That's where I'm at exactly, Chuck. I've had this thing cycled and I don't have the urge to fill it up. Maybe after I finish the bathroom remodel I'll want to, but I doubt it cause spring will be here and that's a busy time around here. I guess I can leave it empty for awhile to see instead of closing up the hole.

That's a good idea too ! Me I am going to start diving soon instead of scrubbing tanks. I love the fact that my weekly maintenance takes only 15 min and monthly takes about 45. I only have to worry about problems in one tank too! I must have been nuts to have three systems !! I actually am not afraid to open the electric bill anymore also. Which is saying allot since I work for them. Lol. :oldman:
Gotta go clean my clubs ! Good luck

O.k. so my buddy comes over and tells me I'm nuts for breaking down a perfectly good tank. I'm keeping it open and putting only LPS in it. Maybe a couple of small fish so it's not completely boring, but not enough so I have to do water changes every two weeks.
If you guys are selling lps frags, let me know. Looking for colorful, but not crazy expensive frags. I'll post in want to buy forum too.
Going to Preuss next week to see what they have.

I am sorry to hear about you taking down your aquarium.
Are you selling any Corals?
What equipment are you selling?
How about a tank with just one gigas clam?

Tom
sounds like a good reason to go to the frag swap on March 24th in Dexter :)

So far I put one head of frogspawn I got from Alex and a brain coral. I'll see how things go with those and adjust my new LED's on them before I spend too much money.

Hey Steve, not shutting down as I thought. I'm going to try my hand at lps.

Good suggestion Pat! I might try a clam or two along with the lps.

That could be a good place to start! I have seen some great colors and prices at swaps on sps, but I never looked for lps in those days.
