Miscellaneous Information: i bought this pair over the weekend. they were sold to me asa breeding pair of yellow striped cardinals but clearly this pic shows they are not. doesnt make much of a difference to me either way. i was mostly looking for a cheap way to try out a few breeding attempts.

well the female has really been bulking up the past week. today during feeding she looked like she could pop. came home from dinner tonight and the male is constantly on her "tail". i have a good feeling in going to wake up to a male with a mouth full of eggs.

heres a vid of when the activity started happening. the lights are off now, they dipped behind the rocks 2 min after lights out and didnt come out for a couple mins, then right back in. i got bored and went to type this.

I keep standing in front of the tank with a net in my hand debating on whether to pull the male out and put him in the tank I have set up for the larvae. that way he can just let them go in there when ever hes ready, but im worried he might spit them out or something when I go to catch them.

04-29-2013, 07:06 PM
while watching the cardinal just now when he went to adjust the eggs something fell out it was hard to tell if it was still an egg or if it was a larvae. if I hat to bet i would say larvae, the eyes were the most prominent part of it. im really new to this so everything is something new to me. im still debating the best way to get the larvae into their new home, its hard to tell if they have hatched yet but I can say he is adjusting the egg/larvae quite frequently now.

some pics, I was looking back at this journal and wanted to show just how much bigger his mouth has gotten.

05-02-2013, 07:42 AM
Dont they release fully formed fish just like banggai's?

05-02-2013, 08:43 AM
dont know, only one person has ever hatched them and they used an egg tumbler. but i can tell you that its day 10 with no change.

05-03-2013, 09:31 AM
I was thinking the same thing DC. Maybe he's got babies in there!!! Yahooo!!

05-03-2013, 10:41 AM
well at the end of day 10 he released them, i didnt notice until this morning though, and they were all dead. there was about 50 of them, about 2mm long.

now he couldd have released them for any of 3 reasons,
1) they hatched and died after being released
2) they died in his mouth so he released them
3) they hatched, they "matured", he released them and then they died.

when i found them they were all in one corner and many were stuck to the sponge filter, i had the sponge filter turned way down, even the copepod napaulii could manage with no problems. ill try to take a pic of one when i get home.
