RODI units

I saw a recent article on RODI units. I was interested in buying one. Someone referenced those to purchase on ebay. I am concerned about locating replacemt filters later. What unit would anyone recommend How often do you need new filters and cost range for filters and the unit? thanks for any info. I have a 58 gallon and am sick of always buying rodi h20 at the petstore

I run two of the units off of ebay at home that are from AquaSafeSystems and I like them, but sometimes shipping can take a while because they come from Canada, even though on ebay they have a US address.

This 6-stage RO/DI is similiar to the unit we use here (ours only has one DI chamber), but it has served us very well, way over 3000 gallon pulled from it to date. I've only had to change the DI resin once ($18 for approximately three refills). Best $100 we've spent yet. Do yourself a favor and grab a TDS meter at the same time. The whole thing will pay for itself in months compared to buying water.

To replace all the filter elements and RO membrane is around $50 with shipping, I'm figuring I'll just replace the whole unit for the newer model when that day comes.

I have one of the Filter Direct RODI units as well. You can't beat what you get for the price. Still maintaining 0 on my TDS meter. Comes with an automatic shutoff which is extra on most units.

I can't afford a good RODI unit, but my family got a new refrigerator that has a water purifying system in it. Is it okay to use that water, just let it get room temp and remove the chlorine to it?

Mutts I would IMO you would be better off buying DI water than using filtered tap water. In the long run a good RODI unit will save you money and other problems with your tank.

Thanks for all the info on RODI units. Question : what do you mean by filter direct? What is the difference with all the stages? Does each stage have a filter requiring to change later? Are more stages better? A TDS meter should measure zero? You test it on h20 that has gone thru the system. Correct?

Filter Direct is the name of the company(distributor) on e-bay that a lot of us here bought from, dakar gave you the link. Basically you have a 5 micron sediment filter, 2 stage carbon filter. membrane and then a 2 stage DI filter. Thats a good set up for a RODI unit. It also has an automatic shut off which will shut the unit off(stops making waste water when the unit stops producing RODI water).And yes the TDS (total dissolved solids) meter measures the quality of the water. Zero is what you look for after the unit. As far as changing the various filters, that depends on how good or bad the water is going into the unit and how much you use it. That's were the meter comes in handy, it will tell you when it's time to change your DI media or membrane. You can get a visual on the filters.

Where do you buy TDS meter . Ihave a Seachem RO unit is it any good, the guy at the LFS said it was the best.

If it's just an RO unit and not a RODI than no you aren't getting the best filtration.You can get a meter on e-bay or places like MarineDepot.

Did you get the new model with two DI chambers? I'd imagine they work quite well at keeping TDS at 0... keep us posted.

BTW how about a report of your water source (city water or well?) and the TDS before RO/DI?

I purchased an aquarium(2) 110 gpd ro +2DI water system. I have city water. Looking forward to using it when it arrives.
