I have been doing some research on setting up a quarantine tank for my new 75 gallon. I don't have one yet, so I know I need one. I am going to most likely use my old 29 gallon as a QT tank, with my old Skilter 250 filter. I have issues with that filter though, and don't know if it is acceptable to use. So, I figured I would ask you pros..

I did read that when using a floss type of filter, to remove the carbon section of the floss. Unfortuanely, I was so mad at this filter a long time ago, when I took it down, I think I threw away the manual for it. So, which one is the carbon filter?

Also, with that filter, I remember that I really didn't even know if it was running correctly because the air intake tube that had a plug in it would let in tons of bubbles. So, is it supposed to be plugged or unplugged?

Should I be using a different filter of some sort?

With the QT tank, do you need to add live rock, sand, and damsels?

Thanks for all the help, as always.

For my QT tank I run a 10G cheapmart tank, I have a Bio-Wheel filtration system with no filtration and no bio-wheel. It is mainly there to creat water movement/circulation, and a heater.

Outside of water changes and medication, that is pretty much all my QT is.
