Gorgonian,LOL.Seriously,they can be tough to ID.You'll need a macro shot and a detailed description of its polyps,do they retract,how far apart,etc..

yes, they retract...polyps are very close together.

so many possibilities... lets narrow it down. Was it listed as photosynthetic or non-photosynthetic??? The pic suggests plexura... aka sea rod or candelarium.

i got it at Feeders Supply ... so i guess you can imagine that it was not listed as anything but "purple gorgonia".
im thinking it is "Diodogorgia nodulifera" or "colorful sea rod".

could be, but the more common colors are red and yellow.
