are there specific bulb for different applications? Can I just go into a hydroponics store and buy a 250w MH bulb, or do I need somesthing specific for a reef?

a higher kelvin of a true 6500k to a true 14000k is recommended those under 10000k, usually need actinic supplimenting via pcs, vhos, or t5s for color.
