Hi,
How long can brine shrimp be expected to live in a SW reef tank? Of course assuming that they don't get sucked up the filter, mangled in a powerhead impeller, eaten or other such demises.

not long... live mysis will live long-term, though.

when we were feeding live adult brine to our seahorse tank, the few that made it through the feeding frenzy would still swimming around for a good 12 hours but most became a meal for something before they could pass on.

in reguards to using brine shrine as a feeder for sw fish.this is not the ideal food for any sw species due to its fw habitat.fw species have a completly different diet than sw species this is the main reason fw fish or feeders should not be used.brine shrimp especially it harbors very little to no nutritional value what so ever to sw fish thus normally resulting in malnurishment unless the brine is guttloaded(pumped with added vit for 12 hrs before feeding) brine is used in many marine foods but is basicly a filler simular to corn meal in dog foods, I have been into sw fish keeping for the past 4 1/2 yrs and in this time have made it a habit to do extencive research on proper feeding and nutritional needs for each of my fish.to ensure they remain healthy.i do recommend researcing your dietary needs a little more for your fishes well being.as for live feeders you can purchase white shrimp which is a marine species and can be kept and bred in a refuge or sep enviroment for feeding at later dates these shrimp can be purchased at http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=2191&N=0 or you can have your LFs special order them for you. this is what i do.if your lfs does not know whare to get them they can always contact live aquaria also.
