This is the link to the post about Erics tank crash. The thing that bothers me is that he suggest someone messed with his tank. It would tank alot to do a 400 gal. water change with out someone noticing. I am not saying it is not possible but for this one it sound like user error and a case of CYA. So just thought you guys and gals would like to see this seeing how i mentioned it in another post. Either way it is a sad event.

Eric mentioned this on Saturday night when I heard him speak at the WMC. You could tell the guy was just kind of a wreck and rightly so. It is terribly sad no matter the cause. Based on Page 8 of the Marine Depot forum thread plus what he sad on Saturday, his sump is located outside in an unlocked shed. It is hard to believe someone would sabotage something like but we all know that the world is full of sick people who will hurt others for no good reason.

That really sucks.... the saddest thing is my bet is that somehow, someway, someone will find a way to try and cash in on his misfortune. Some new miracle in a bottle will be on the shelf next month.

From what i've read, the tank crash was do to sabotage,I havn't checked back on the latest updates but that is realy sad to think that someone would do such a thinge,Especially considering the corals that were in that tank. The highly threatened/endangered Caribbean Acropora palmata which takes special permission/grants from the government just to be able to have access to grow it in captivity.

Well after reading how much support he as be give on this I would like to say this. Maybe some positive will come of this sad event. Erics attidute towards some people I know as well as me has not been very open minded. In truth some of the quotes coming from him were "You are doing everything wrong and your tank will crash". He has had kind of a his way or the wrong way attatude towards alot of people lately, of course the RC thing was just the icing on the cake. Maybe his attitude will cange to a more positive and open minded view. Yes it is very sad that alot of corals died and if it was sabotage than the person who did it deserves to go to jail for a long time.
As a public figure, Eric, I feel it would be more correct to look at some one elses view and see that they might be right as well. In this hobby there is so many different ways to do things, yes some might be easyier than others but still that does not make it wrong.
One person I know very well said there is no experts in this hobby, those who claim to be end up having the biggest problems. So with all this said i hope that Eric reevaluates his view on the hobby and learns from his mistakes. After all that is the whole point of this hobby is to learn and grow so others can learn from our mistakes as well as others.

I've had nothing but positive experiences in the past few yrs dealin with him.Since his forum is about corals,Eric Borneman(last name in title of thread mispelled)is usually one to shy away from methodology,equiptment/etc.. questions.I agree,he might rub people the wrong way sometimes but i've never seen him advocate "his way" as the right way.In fact, there's a quote from his book that could probably summ that up.
pg. 323 Aquarium Corals
"This text will not attempt to describe the details of planning and creating a reef aquarium and will not advocate one approach over others.Indeed, there are few real truths in reef aquarium methodology, and there is,in many cases, great flexibility in what works and what does not."

That was a direct quote from him and one other person made to me. The question was about a bare bottom tank. Yes many people have had nothing but positive experence from him, maybe he thought I was someone else but that was the exzact response I got. Sorry I mispelled his last name either way it still doesn't change what happened on reef central. I am glad you have had postive experences with him, but I cannot say the same.

Well, that's what great about this forum,we can agree to diagree on certain issues. However,I think this thread should of been posted on his forum where he would of at least been given the opportunity to respond. This thread has absolutely nothing to do with the tanks crashing and more to do with your personal views/opinions(which you are entitled to) on him and the situation.

Sad part is I did tell him. I am one of those people who if I am going to talk about someone, I better say it to there face as well. I emailed the other rude person who emailed me back with a disclouser(forgive the spelling) clase in it. I am sure you can all guess who that was, but of course I can not leagally talk about it.

Personally, I'm getting rather annoyed with a thread that is basically starting a conflict of interests between our own members and has been based on the differences of opinions of others. PurpleAardvark, if you are having problems with others on the site, rather than advertising so, please take advantage of the PM abilities by contacting a mod/admin and allowing them to do their jobs. Here are the facts... an authority figure in this hobby has had a mishap (it happens), some have their own ideas of why, and some seem to feel it neccessary to mock BORNEMAN'S ideals and opinions possibly to jab at his mis-fortune. Now, before this thread continues to add momentum and snowball into more garbage, I have chosen to lock it. Please, feel free to address me personally or another admin if you wish.
