Greetings all,

I've been away from CR for the past year or so as family and business demanded all my available time. I've finally reached a point where I have some time to devote to the reef-keeping hobby (addiction.)

Over the past 20 years, I've built and kept a variety of smaller reef tanks including a series of rather "unique" desktop tanks. I finally have an opportunity for a larger build. This system is being placed in the living of my home with ATO and AWC equipment directly below the tank in the basement. It should end up around 325 gallons.
Here's the current equipment list:

Tank -- GLA 270 (96" X 30 X 22) 1/2" Starphire, open top w/clear cross bracing fitted with a BeanAnimal style internal overflow (3X1.5" drains)
Sump -- GLA 72X24X18, 135 gallon glass sump, center return with 30X24 refugeum
Lighting, Display tank -- Kessil 360WEs, (5-7) controlled by the Apex
Lighting, Sump/Refugeum - YTBD
Return Pump -- Fluval SP6 135W @ 3434 GPH feeding return, refugeum and manifold
Controller - Apex Aquacontroller, w/various modules.
Skimmer -- Bubble King Double Cone 250 w/Vertex Vectra Engine automated neck cleaner
Calcium reactor -- GEO 612 w/Tropic Eden and NeoMag. Aquarium Plants digital regulator
Kalk Reactor -- 40Gal still well fed by ATO peristaltic pump
Saltwater Make-up and storage - 2X200 gallon Norwesco 30X72" tanks, fed and mixed by Waveline 12000 (backup for return pump)
Continous Water Change (CWC) - Cole-Parmer Masterflex w/dual peristaltic pumps
ATO -- Osmolator water sensor using Cole-Parmer peristaltic pump.
Water movement - YTBD likely a combination of MP60s and WP60s
Rock -- BRS Pukani and shelf
Substrate -- 1.5"-2" Tropic Eden Reef Flakes
Heaters -- 2X 300W Eheim-JAGER TS, 1 Cobalt NeoTherm 200W
GFO/GAC -- YTBD (Vertex or MR1) dual reactors running HiCap GFO and ROX .08 GAC as needed
BioPellets - YTBD
UV - YTBD
Ozone - YTBD

The tank was ordered 12/16/13, expected tank and stand build time about 6 weeks. There's a lot to get done in the interim including,

- Relocate 2 existing tanks, remove hung LED lighting, repair and paint
- Remove carpeting and tile tank area
- Complete water RO/DI storage, Saltwater mixing, CWC and ATO station in basement

I expected to have to do some floor strengthening, but was pleasantly surprised to find it was not necessary. I had the tank location reviewed by a structural engineer. The tank will sit perpendicular to 5 2X10 joists spanning only 48" between the poured basement wall and steel I-beam. Nothing additional was recommended as the intended location will support 5500lbs.

Lots of decisions still pending including final decisions on lighting, overflow and sump design. This will also be my first attempt as hard-plumbing. I figured I'd start with the saltwater mixing station hoping to make the beginner mistakes there rather than on the tank.

For those that might be wondering about the "Big Blue Wall" thread title -- I'm planning on painting the wall behind the tank a cobalt blue (the rest of the room is white.) As the Kessil pendants put out an incredible amount of shimmer, and this tank is open-top, I'm hopeful it might turn the entire wall into an interesting, shimmery backdrop for the tank.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and for all the questions and advice I'll no doubt be asking for.

Thanks all, It's good to be back :)

As for the plans for this tank, I'm largely undecided. I really enjoyed the time I spent learning about planted tanks, Iwagumi in particular. I'm thinking about trying to incorporate some of those design cues into this tank - especially the use of negative space. Here's an example of the hardscape I created that I likes so much, it sits dry and as-is in my living room...

http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/n622/CalmSeasQuest/Iwagumi/af7c81bff4269f5a3739a6528efc6c71-1.jpg

Obviously a reef tank will look dramatically different, but I bet I can find a way to incorporate some of the "feel" of it. I've got a couple hundred pounds of pukani and shelf that I've accumulated over the years to choose from.

Another absolute luxury I'm still trying to wrap my head around is the pure amount of space available both in the tank and sump. Equipment wise, it allows me to go with whatever is desired without worrying if it will fit. As for stocking, it will be SPS dominant. Fish selection itself will be a lot of fun as I've never had the luxury of an 8'X30" of swimming space. The only sure thing is I want to find a female companion for my Red Mandarin (George) who has been with me for more than 4 years. All the rest will have to be decided with my daughter Tori probably having final approval power - Anthias, a pair of Picassos, it will be fun choosing :) I suspect the king-of-the-tank will likely be an Achilles, but that won't happen until much later.

A bit of an update -

It seems I underestimated the amount of room these twin 200 gallon tanks and associated mixing/CTW plumbing was going to require. As a result, I've had to remove a series of storage racks and turn a rarely used second guest room in the basement into a permanent storage facility.

I completed a rough design and placed the plumbing orders from Savko, USPlastic and Cole-Parmer. It took far more hours to think through the saltwater mixing station design than I anticipated and then even more to figure out each individual plumbing component. No doubt it contains lots of newby-plumber mistakes, but I think it will be functional. I stepped down from the 2" tank outlet to 1 1/4 to match the inlet/outlet size on the DC 1050 pump. I'll post a picture (trying to develop some Sketchup skills) otherwise it will be simple drawing with hopes someone with more experience can critique.

The storage tanks should arrive next week - Let the plumbing learning curve begin :smash:

I've largely decided on the sump design, I'm going to enlarge the below uncleof6 design that will provide a 20X24X10 skimmer area, 18X24X9 for the return pump and 30X24X12 for a fuge/frag area. This should be about 75 gallons in operational volume and allow for about ~50 gallons in overflow when the return pump is off (I'll use a wye check valve on the return, but never trust them.)

http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/n622/CalmSeasQuest/Reef/CSQ%20Big%20Blue%20Wall/SumpLayout.jpg (http://s1143.photobucket.com/user/CalmSeasQuest/media/Reef/CSQ%20Big%20Blue%20Wall/SumpLayout.jpg.html)

All that needs to be added is a manifold and slight rerouting of the siphon and trickle drains to incorporate the occasional use of filter socks. I'll create a 5 tap manifold for the GFO, GAC and BioPellet reactors and a couple spares.

I think I've also changed my return pump selection, deciding to go with the Waveline 12000. It provides more flow and head pressure than the Diablo. The only inconvenience is the intake is larger (1.5") requiring some plumbing changes to the saltwater mixing station.

Still researching GFO, GAC and bio pellet reactors. I've had lots of flow issues with the BRS reactors over the years, so perhaps Vertex or NextReef MR1s. I'd like to use a manifold tap to drive the CaRx, but I've had such great luck with the Cole-Parmer - I'm not sure I want to fool with it.

I also decided on a Vertex Alpha 250 as it will run happily in 10" of water. Perhaps the greatest challenge will be fitting all the "Dry" equipment into the remaining 22X29 space in the cabinet.

As I sit here researching equipment for this build, It dawns on me....

We struggle, spending dozens of hours researching just the right LED's to reduce electrical needs and limit heat (at least radiant heat) from entering the tank...

We use the latest, most energy efficient DC pumps to save energy and reduce the amount of heat being added to the tank.

We use Killawatts to tabulate every watt leached by every ancillary device to create the most "green" environment possible, All so we can...

Buy MORE, LARGER, energy sucking HEATERS that are now needed to compensate for the missing Metal Halide heaters (poorly disguised as lights) and all the cold, energy sipping devices we just paid a huge premium for.

Somehow, with all the smaller tanks I've had over the years, it never really hit home. It's interesting what you pay attention to when you realize you how many Watts are needed to heat 325 gallons of saltwater

And do so gladly I might add

I like the plan Tom! Just wondering why the equal size drains and returns? If I could change one thing on my new tank it would be the drain size. How many drains are you planning ? Ya might want consider 1 1/2 to 2 in for the drains. It will make flooding less likely, allow you to install larger pump in the future if you deiced you gotta have more!
It also makes much easier to make the noise reduction much better. Have you considered theRed Dragon series pumps? Huge volumes with very low wattage consumption and are practically bluet proof! And have a very small footprint. Little pricey but worth it in the long run! Following along for sure ,you could do a hot water heater heat system if your hot water tank is close by. Dave(diver down) did this on his system and really reduced the expense of a 900 gallon total system

Thanks Chuck,

The drains are configured as a Bean Animal - 3 X 1.5" drains in total with the primary running full siphon. The drains will far outrun the return and should be virtually silent. The return should be good for about 2400GPH, but with the MP60's handling the vast majority of tank flow, I doubt I'll run anywhere near that through the sump.

The Red Dragon pumps are great - one powers the Alpha 250 skimmer. I also considered the Abyzz 100 (an incredible pump) but can't imagine needing more than the ~3000GPH provided by the DC Waveline even when including the manifold. I like the hot water tank concept, but with the sump in the stand it would be some work to accomplish. I think I'll wait till the tank is up and see how much supplemental heat is needed - then decide the next step.

RO/DI and Saltwater tanks are in place. Each hold 200 gallons (30"DiaX72"tall) I've started roughing out the plumbing and the Waveline DC12000 should get here Monday along with a few missing plumbing components.

I'm estimating ~7 GPD evaporation. I'll rig a latching float system with the Apex which will automatically fill the RO/DI tank. Other than monitoring and periodically changing RO/DI filters, resin and membranes, The ATO system should require very little maintenance.

The plan for the AWC is to use a Masterflex pump driving 2 peristaltic pumps to replace about 4 GPD. This should yield a ~40% monthly water change and require refilling the saltwater tank every 6~7 weeks.

I am having some second thoughts on the tank dimensions. I initially decided on limiting the tank height to 22" so I could reach the substrate with the tank sitting on a 36" tall stand. I'm now thinking that perhaps I should just go with the 320 and gain the additional 4" of height.

Decisions, decisions...:)

AWC. Man that is the way to go! I always wanted to use a liter meter to do the same thing.nice tanks where did you find those??

CalmSeasQuest
12-28-2013, 08:38 PM
Thanks Chuck,

The tanks came from TanksForLess. I considered the Litermeter III, but I had collected a few lab-grade Masterflex pumps over the years that require far less maintenance and are perfect for this task. Because one pump will drive both pumps at exactly the same RPM, it should eliminate the need to calibration.

I'm excited to see this build come together - A primary goal is to minimize maintenance. The ATO and AWC components are an important part of the reduced maintenance.

After much deliberation, I committed to the Kessils A360WE's and took advantage of a 10% off coupon through ReefGeek (not to mention the things are sold out most everywhere else.) With my shallow depth and the additional 15% output from the new "E" models, I'm hopeful they will end up being a great choice.

http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/n622/CalmSeasQuest/Reef/CSQ%20Big%20Blue%20Wall/A360We.jpg (http://s1143.photobucket.com/user/CalmSeasQuest/media/Reef/CSQ%20Big%20Blue%20Wall/A360We.jpg.html)http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/n622/CalmSeasQuest/Reef/CSQ%20Big%20Blue%20Wall/Adapter.jpg (http://s1143.photobucket.com/user/CalmSeasQuest/media/Reef/CSQ%20Big%20Blue%20Wall/Adapter.jpg.html)
5 - A360WE Controllable LED Aquarium Light - Wide Angle Lens
5 - 90 Degree Gooseneck Adapter
1 - Control Unit Link Cable for A360 and A360W to Neptune Systems Apex
5 - Control Unit Link Cable for A360 and A360W KSL0103
5 - Gooseneck Clamp/Mount for A150, A350, and A360

I ordered 5 to begin with to see what 1 unit every 18" looks like. The gooseneck adapters should give me the ability to "stagger" the lights if needed to cover the 30" front/back.

Still searching for the Vertex Alpha 250 as they appear to be pretty scarce. Took advantage of other year-end sales and grabbed 4 cases of IO/RC, 300lbs of Tropic Eden Reef Flakes, another Apex system (so I don't have to cannibalize my existing setup which will be used as QT/hospital tank) and a second Waveline 12000 (same pumps used for return and saltwater mixing station.)

I also decided to roll the dice and try the Jaebo WP series pumps. I ordered 4 60's, and a couple 40's and 10's to test.

I'm looking forward to seeing this come together. When I had my basement sump, I chose a return pump that I knew added heat to the water, specifically for the reason you mention. The pump I have now, also adds heat, but I would prefer it didn't. (Reeflo Triton III, it is really to big for my system.)

In finalizing the designs for the saltwater mixing station, I'm reconsidering the use of a Kalk reactor.

Years back I read a great article written by Randy Holmes-Farley on the benefits of adding vinegar to fortify Kalk (http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2005-01/rhf/). Since then, I've had success adding vinegar to Kalk, both to increase the amount of available calcium and as an added carbon source. I attribute this process (in addition to the use of DSBs) to my never having any nitrate issues. As this will be my first large tank with a SSB, I want to do all I can to maximize biological filtration - including the use of vinegar. The use of a Kalk reactor makes that more complicated. Instead, I plan on adding a covered 40 gallon brute to the mixing/storage station which will be fed by the RO/DI storage tank and hold an over-saturation of Kalk to which Vinegar can be dosed. This will be the ATO source.

This will allow me to continue using Vinegar, eliminate the cost of another reactor and most importantly - save space in the cabinet. It will also forestall the need for a larger CaRx and likely remove entirely the need for a bio-pellet reactor (Anecdotally, I found no benefits when I tested adding Bio-Pellets concurrently with vinegar dosing.)

Adding yet another water container will be a tight fit in the basement, but I think the benefits outweigh the inconvenience, and if for some reason it fails to perform as expected, I can always add the Kalk Reactor.

Thanks Gary!

Made a bit of progress (sorry for the cell cam pics)...

The first DC12000 arrived - it looks tiny next to the 200G tanks...
http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/n622/CalmSeasQuest/Reef/CSQ%20Big%20Blue%20Wall/20131231_124510.jpg (http://s1143.photobucket.com/user/CalmSeasQuest/media/Reef/CSQ%20Big%20Blue%20Wall/20131231_124510.jpg.html)

Most of the plumbing is mocked up - I'm missing one union to account for the 1 1/2" intake in the Waveline. I installed a 4X8 3/4" plywood wall that will be painted white upon which the water treatment equipment and electrical will be installed. A shelf will hold the Masterflex pumps. The 40 gallon brute will serve as a still reservoir holding Kalk for the ATO...

I picked up a 100g stock tank to aid in cleaning/curing the Pukani and will serve as a temp holding tank for my current livestock when I tear down the two existing tanks.

Very soon - there will be NO more buckets :D

I fitted this Masterflex peristaltic pump with two pump heads which turn about a single shaft. This allows them to move very close to identical liquid volumes with very little maintenance (such as having to calibrate pumps and take-apart pump heads to perform periodic maintenance as is required in systems such as the Litermeter III.) By simply reversing the direction in which the tubing is placed in the pump head, you can have one pump "push" while the other "pulls"

This will drive the continuous water change system (CWC) - One head will remove old saltwater from the return section of the sump, while the other simultaneously adds the exact amount of new saltwater to the return section. Depending on the final lengths of each run, there may be a small difference in the exact volumes pumped. If this occurs, I'll use an pinch or IV style ramp clamp to slightly impede the faster of the two line.

Based on the amount of water being exchanged, the 200 gallon saltwater storage tank should run quite a while before requiring refilling. When the tank is new, I'll probably set it to change 20% monthly which will run for about 11 weeks before requiring refilling. As the bio-load increases, the touch of a button increases the amount of water exchanged to whatever is desired.

I've found these pumps to be nearly bulletproof as they are designed for constant duty. I've had one feeding a CaRx 24/7 for almost 5 years with no maintenance whatsoever (even the tubing is original as it runs at very low RPM.) In theory it should be provide stability for the tank and be a "set it and forget" style system (at least for a couple months at a time.)

I filled both tanks and to my surprise, had only a couple of small leaks (fixed.) I'm elated as this was my first attempt at hard plumbing. Everthing seems to function as intended so far. I'm impressed with the Waveline 12000 - it moves an incredible amount of water and is very quiet. One small problem - I had to use raw well water to leak test the tanks which contains a fair amount of precipitated iron. I need to get the tanks and lines rinsed as soon as I've got about a 100 gallons of water made.

There is still lots to do, but at least I'm able to start making water. Next will be,

Rinse the inside of the tanks as soon as I've got enough water. I have a second, 75GDP Dow Filmtec RO membrane that I may try adding to increase the output. I'm pretty lucky, my RO running at 100 PSI generates 1 TDS water to the DI resin, so I think the second membrane will work

Fill the stock tank and start soaking the Pukani (need to get this done so I can use the tank to transfer the existing livestock.)

Clean up all the water and power line runs and run an Aquabus cable so I can gain control of the E8B

Run the Fill/Drain line (a single 3/4" line will both fill and drain the tank), CWC and ATO lines upstairs

I still have to decide on the automation. For the RO tank, A latching valve arrangement is tough as I can't get at the bottom of the tank. I'll probably use a simple float valve tied to the Apex. Turning on the RO once every couple weeks or so for just long enough to top off the tank. The Kalk/ATO tank is a bit trickier. I don't think a float or optical sensor will work well as a hard crust forms on the surface of the water. In addition, vinegar has to be added with each fill. For the time being, I'll probably just fill it manually. It should be a weekly item and only requires opening a single valve. I've got a bunch of BRS top-off and dosing pumps on hand - I'll work on automating the top off and vinegar add once everything else is done :)

I installed the second RO membrane. With ~310TDS softened, working water, it's now producing about 150 GPD, but the RO product water did increase to 3TDS. I'm shocked it's working as well as it is - in fact, I assumed the inline TDS meters might have been wrong but my hand-held provided the same results. I'll gladly accept the 3TDS as the SpectraPure SilcaBuster and MaxCap DI resin works very well.

Here's a quick video showing the flow on the Waveline DC12000 running at full-output. This is looking down through the cover on one of the 200 gallon tanks (~7' head) with 1 1/4" plumbing...

The RO/DI is cranking out 0TDS water at the rate of about 150GPH, but I'm hearing new noises emanating from the boost pump. It's an older pump and likely due to be rebuilt/replaced. I'm also concerned that it might be out-drawing the 1/4" feed coming from the saddle valve.

I decided to order a new Aquatronic 8800 boost pump, pressure switch and solenoid that will cut the flow of water to the system when the pump is de-energized. I'm also adding a second saddle valve which will be T'd into the supply side of the RO/DI.

A float at the top of the RO storage tank will turn off the pump and cut the water supply to the RO/DI. Once I determine the evaporation rates and fill times required, I'll use the Apex to manage the pump on/off days and run times of the pump as a fail-safe.

Happiness is having 400 gallons of RO/DI available at the turn of a valve :)

I'm waiting on a few more parts to complete the plumbing upstairs to the tank area. My plan is to run a single 3/4" line with a couple valves such that it can be used to both fill, and drain the tank.

I took a break from working on the saltwater station and turned my focus to prepping the live rock I have on hand. I considered using Muriatic acid to dissolve the outer layer of the rock (hopefully including the bound phosphates), but the weather here makes that more difficult...

http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/n622/CalmSeasQuest/Reef/CSQ%20Big%20Blue%20Wall/20140108_090356.jpg (http://s1143.photobucket.com/user/CalmSeasQuest/media/Reef/CSQ%20Big%20Blue%20Wall/20140108_090356.jpg.html)
-5F and 15"+ of snow presents a challenge working the rock outside.

So instead, I put the ~100lbs of Pukani and some BRS reef saver I had on hand in the stock tank with 20:1 RO/bleach solution, a heater set to 82F and one of the new WP25's I just received to keep the water moving.

http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/n622/CalmSeasQuest/Reef/CSQ%20Big%20Blue%20Wall/20140109_063007.jpg (http://s1143.photobucket.com/user/CalmSeasQuest/media/Reef/CSQ%20Big%20Blue%20Wall/20140109_063007.jpg.html)

I used a few pieces of acrylic I had on hand left over from prior projects to minimize evaporation and keep the bleach fumes contained...

http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/n622/CalmSeasQuest/Reef/CSQ%20Big%20Blue%20Wall/20140109_063724.jpg (http://s1143.photobucket.com/user/CalmSeasQuest/media/Reef/CSQ%20Big%20Blue%20Wall/20140109_063724.jpg.html)
I'll bleach it for a few days, then empty the tank, rinse - then refill with saltwater. I ordered Lanthanum Chloride (SeaKlear) to help reduce what I'm sure will be a ton of Phosphates that leach from the Pukani.

Once complete, I'll transfer the rock into Brutes to continue the curing/make live process while I move my existing livestock to the stock tank.

I installed the new RO booster pump, pressure switch, solenoid and second water feed...

I'm really pleased at how well it's producing. With 100PSI across the membranes, I've got ~310TDS softened well water being reduced to ~2TDS by the RO and cranked out at ~150 GPD. The Spectrapure MaxCap and Silica Buster DI resins should last many hundreds of gallons.

I finished bleaching the rock, now I'm trying vinegar to dissolve a bit of the exterior layer. It's not as effective as Muriatic acid, but I can deal with it inside. I'm debating on ordering a bit more rock from BRS or perhaps Marco as I also need more Thorite.

I also finished pressure-testing the storage tanks and manifold - Topped off with 400 gallons - No Leaks :)

I use the same BRS RO/DI system. Are you using the color changing DI resin? If so how often did you have to change it to make 400 gallons? Where did you get those water storage containers.

No, I'm using the non-color changing Spectrapure MaxCap and Silica-Buster resins. As I understand it, the non-color changing version provides slightly higher capacity. I monitor it via TDS meters anyway, so I don't really miss it. I switched to Spectrapure from BRS a couple years ago - they are amazing. I think I only changed DI resin once in the past year. I've already put about 500 gallons @ 2TDS through the current ones, they aren't even broken in yet :)

I bought the Norwesco tanks through tanksforless.com.

Wow I will check out Spectrapure. I changed my color change resin 3 times last year for only probably 200 gallons. I use the color change just to give me a quick look ans then use TDS meter to know when to change it. My BRS RO unit only get down to 9-13 TDS and then I am 0 coming out of DI!

9-13 out of the RO seems really high unless your source water is 450+TDS. You'l burn through resin fast. I'd check your RO - if you're not using a boost pump, increasing the pressure across the membrane can result in a huge efficiency increase. IIRC, when I installed my original boost pump, I went from 5 TDS to 1~2 TDS which more than tripled the resin life.

After bleach and a vinegar soak, I've got the rock in saltwater in a 40 gallon Brute...

I cranked up the temp to 82 and dosed MB-7. I'll let it "percolate" a couple days then test Phosphates which I assume will be off the charts. Probably do a water change, wait a couple more days and test Phosphates again before starting the Lanthanum Chloride.

Next will be transferring the livestock from my existing DT and FT to the stock tank...

It's crude, but should suffice. I'll use the Apex on the existing system to manage it. I'll have to fabricate a skimmer stand, or perhaps just do larger water changes (I'm loving the water change station - just turn 2 valves and water change is done :)) As there will only be a pair of clowns and my Mandarin residing in the ~70 gallons, I may just go skimmerless during the transition.

Once the tanks are shut down, it's paint, tile and new carpet for the living room, finish routing the plumbing upstairs and perhaps add another 20 amp circuit then relocate the TV, audio and gaming equipment into the new media room (formerly my library)...THEN I'll be ready for the tank :)

I have to admit, I don't normally get that caught up in the aesthetics of equipment that will be buried in a sump, but I think the Double Cone is absolutely beautiful. I'll probably leave it sitting on my coffee table until install just so I can stare at it :)

Change in Plans
I'm rethinking my decision on using a Waveline DC12000 as the return pump. The one installed on the saltwater station moves a LOT of water BUT...has exposed a couple problems that make me uneasy about use in the sump,

A leak developed between the volute/cover and the pump motor. It's probably nothing a bit of silicone on the o-ring and an extra 1/4 turn can't solve, but it's not what I expected on the what is supposed to be a high-quality pump.
Although the pump itself is very quiet, the fan in the controller is very loud. It's NOT going into a cabinet that will be located in my living room.

I've been researching other pumps including the 80W Red Dragon 3 (GREAT pump, but very pricey and undersized for my application), The WaterBlasters (I've had a bad one in the past and dealt with rusting screws) and lastly the Laguna/Askolls. I was leaning toward a Laguna 4200 when I stumbled on the Fluval SP6. It appears to be a Laguna with upgrades designed specifically for saltwater use. The specs look good,

Input/Output Diameter: 1.25"
Flow Rate: 3434GPH
Max. Head Pressure: 13 feet
Flow Rate at 4.5 feet: 2250 GPH
Power Consumption: 135W

I can't find a head pressure chart, but as my max head will be ~5' and a lot of flow will be in-sump for the refugeum and manifold - It's relatively new, but all the comments appear positive. I think it's worth a try.

I had the stand sanded and extra coats of paint sprayed inside and out prior to assembly to increase moisture protection. I also had the normally open back of the stand skinned down to 18" from the bottom for more area to mount equipment while still providing adequate ventilation.

I decided to go with black Alterna tile (Vinyl/limestone composite tile - looks like stone, but much more forgiving), which I hope will be installed in about 10 days. New carpet probably won't arrive until after the tank is delivered.

Thanks Jamie - You're welcome to hang out whenever you make the trek (hopefully I'll actually have a tank by then) ;)

I just heard from the tile installers, they will be onsite in a couple days. I caught a bit of a break as every retailer I spoke with said they were backlogged with builder jobs and that it would be at least a month before they could get to my small job.

I continue to spend time cleaning all of the Pukani I've got on hand. There is no doubt it is the lightest/most porous, but it is also the dirtiest and the least imaginative in shape. I'm considering going a different direction. I've got about 150 lbs of BRS Reef Saver on hand which although heaver, is very clean and better shaped. I'm going to place another order with Marco and forgo most of the Pukani for this build.

To aid in establishing biological filtration with minimal rock in the DT, I also ordered more plate and sphere shaped Marine Pure ceramic media which will be housed in the sump...

I've used this before with success in other builds where I had very little rock in the display. I'll seed it in my temporary holding tanks to hasten the cycle.

Thanks John, I'm pretty pleased with the tile selection.

I got the Marine Pure rinsed and placed in the stock tank. I really like this stuff - I added 4 of the 8" X 8" x 1" plates and 1 gallon of the spheres (about 75 individual spheres.) Using their area calculations, that provides ~41,000 Sq Ft of surface area for biological filtration. Not only will it help hasten the cycle, but as I'm planning a rather open aquascape with lots of negative space, it minimizes the amount of rock needed in the DT while occupying very little space in the sump.

Next decision is finalizing the sump. This design is from uncle06, and I believe was derived from Melev's designs, so I'm pretty comfortable with the overall layout. My questions regard the dimensions and depth - The glass sump is 72" X 24" X 18", Here's what I have currently...

http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/n622/CalmSeasQuest/Reef/CSQ%20Big%20Blue%20Wall/SumpLayout.jpg (http://s1143.photobucket.com/user/CalmSeasQuest/media/Reef/CSQ%20Big%20Blue%20Wall/SumpLayout.jpg.html)

The drains are set up Bean Animal style with 3 X 1.5" drains. The 1" return feeds 2 X 3/4" loc-lines. I'll add a 4 port manifold off the return pump to drive reactors and may configure it using a second pump for redundancy (I'm a little concerned about getting/keeping the siphon tuned with the variations caused by the manifold.) The baffles are set at 1 1/2" yielding the following...

Skimmer section - 20" X 24" X 10" = ~20.8 gallons
Return Section - 18" X 24" X 10" = ~18.7 gallons
Fuge/Frag section - 30" X 24" X 12" = 37.4 gallons

After estimating the equipment volume, the above should provide ~35 gallons for pump-failure overflow from the DT (I'll have a check valve, but never trust them.) The loc-line will be drilled with anti-siphon holes, so i don't think it will drain more than 2", which would be no more than 25 gallons - which the sump should easily hold in the event the check valve failed.

With the skimmer and return section depth set to 10", I'll have to raise the skimmer a couple inches, but thankfully I've got enough head room to do so. I'm going with 10" water depth to maximize the amount of evaporation before the return pump would run dry in the event of an ATO failure.

As this is my first large tank build, please point out anything I've failed to take into consideration. Thank you for tagging along - I really appreciate any comments or suggestions :)

Hi Tom,

Looks really good. My main concern is the lack of bubble trap on the frag/fuge section. Perhaps you're planning to do it and it is just not in the picture.

I'm also wondering if the valve on fuge return line is necessary. By leaving it out you could tune all the other valves (line to tank and reactors) and the fuge would just pick up the slack. This might alleviate your siphon tuning concerns. Or maybe not... I don't have a ton of experience in this department. All that said having the valve there just in case might be wise. You can always just run it full open.

Tom

Thanks Tom,

The flow through the fuge/frag area will be pretty slow, I don't think bubbles will be a concern. I think the valve to the fuge is needed, else it would be the " path of least resistance (shortest run, least head) and would get lots of flow.

Got a surprise today, had an electrician out to add a couple 20 amp circuits for the tank. I learned I can't add any more circuits as my connection box uses an aluminum bus and is more than 20 years old (apparently code.) Their solution was upgrading the box and service to the tune of $3800. I've got plenty of circuits and amperage available near the tank, I just wanted dedicated circuits for simplicity and redundancy.

A high quality GFI power strip will resolve my issue for quite a bit less.

Very true Tom,. very true.

And if true redundancy is needed.....the upstairs and downstairs, or room to room can branch of seperate circuts using added wiring, within code, to seperate circuts. A bit of wire, a box, ect. Simple added wiring.

And if you cant build a barn, just build a huge table and 2 chairs.....and save huge expenses for corals.....

I didn't really need the extra circuits, it was more for redundancy and not worth the costs of a new panel or sub-panel. I'll just run a high quality GFI power strip from another lightly used circuit. At max, I'm estimating about 1800 watts (and that's with all LEDs at 100% and all heaters on) which is easily handled on 2 circuits and a large UPS.

I did order waterproof boxes for the outlets close to the tank.

Working through the electrical plan. I've got 3 circuits - 2 @ 15 amps and 1 @ 20 amps (although the 20 amp circuit is shared with a rarely used sump pump.) I'm using individual Shock Buster GFIs (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0007NOZLA/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER) on each circuit to minimize the impact of any false-trips. The current plan is,

Circuit #1 (entire run is on a GFI) ~800W
Tripp Light commercial 20 outlet metal power strip (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00006B81I/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER)
1-7 7X - Kessil 360WE LED lights (7X90W=630W)
8 - CaRx feed pump - 50W
9 - Apex power plug (for power fail sensing) - 10W
10 - CaRx mixing pump - 50W
11 - MP60 - 60W (Vortech battery backup)
12 - MP60 - 60W (Vortech battery backup)
13- 20 - Future Use

Circuit #2 (Saltwater station - ~780W)
EB8 on Tower Shock Buster auto resetting GFI
1 - Waveline DC12000 Mixing/Transfer pump - 170W
2 - Aquatec 8800 RO Boost Pump - 110W
3 - ASW Heater/300W
4 - AWC Masterflex Pump - 100W
5 - ATO Pump (YTBD)
6-8 Future Use

Circuit 3A (1400VA APC SmartUPS) ~ 495W
EB8 on Tower Shock Buster auto resetting GFI -
1 - Fluval SP6 return pump - 135W
2 - Heater/300W (set at 76f/78f)
3 - WP-60 - 60W
4 - 8 Future Use

Circuit 3B ~590W
EB8 on Tower Shock Buster auto resetting GFI
1 - Heater/300W (set at 77f/79f)
2 - Vertex Vectra Skimmer neck cleaner - 20W
3 - BK Skimmer - 50W
4 - Cabinet lights - 50W
5 - WP-60 - 60W
6 - Fuge/Frag light - 90W
7 - Moon lights - 10W
8 - AP Digital CO2 regulator - 10W

Normally I would keep the cable modem and router on the UPS as well so the Apex could alert me to the power outage, but whenever we lose power, our cable service also goes down (even with the modem and router still online.)

This ends up about 2170 Watts maximum utilization or just short of 20 amps divided between 3 circuits. The actual load should be much less (i.e. the second heater will probably only be needed overnight when the house temp is allowed to drop and the main LEDs are off.) This also leaves overhead for future additions such as fans, BP reactor, Kalk stirrer... I'm hoping this provides redundancy should a single GFI trip. In the event of a power outage, the UPS should keep the return pump, WP-60, and controller running for at least 30 minutes (long enough to bring a 7000W gas generator online.)

Please feel free to point out anything I've overlooked - Thanks!

Good news on the electrical front,

I was thinking through the comments from the first electrician that had said circuits could not be added to my box (despite available room on the bus.) His push to install a new panel and bus (at significant cost) made me question his motives. On a hunch I called a second electrical firm to review my situation. They found the box and bus in good shape and have no problem adding 2, 20 amp circuits.

So although I'll have to slightly rework my plan, as of tomorrow, I'll have 2 dedicated 20 amp circuits to work with. :)

Thanks Jamie,

We spend so much time and energy creating an ideal environment for our livestock, we often overlook simple things that can place us and our families at risk. I've had 2 power strips spontaneously catch fire from a saltwater splashes (one was a Apex EB8.) Thankfully I was standing there (I was the cause) when both events happened. I hate to think what might have occurred if it had happened and I wasn't standing there. A fire would have surely occurred and involved my home.

Since then, I've tried to take every precaution possible including,

Covering/sealing electrical outlets that are in proximity to the tank
Independent, auto-resetting, GFI equipped circuits
Metal, commercial grade outlets with independent circuit breakers.
Power strips mounted high
All cords with drip loops or enclosed in cable chases
All unused individual outlets covered with safety plugs

Simply having hundreds of gallons of saltwater in my living room is enough to worry about - I don't want to also have to worry about a cheap power strip resulting in a fire (https://www.google.com/search?q=powerstrip+fire&rlz=1C1CHMO_enUS492US492&oq=powerstrip+fire&aqs=chrome..69i57j0l5.3028j0j4&sourceid=chrome&espv=210&es_sm=122&ie=UTF-8#q=powerstrip+causes+fire&spell=1&tbm=vid).

Progress continues albeit, slowly.

I spoke w/Steve at GLA - They are behind largely due to the weather. They plan on starting on my tank and sump this week. Delivery should be less than 2 weeks away.

I've been working through how to handle GAC and GFO. I wanted fluidized reactors with small footprints that can be easily plumbed using the manifold. Perhaps most importantly, as these require frequent maintenance, I was looking for the easiest-to-service options. I decided on a pair of the the Vertex RX-U 2.5L

http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/n622/CalmSeasQuest/Reef/CSQ%20Big%20Blue%20Wall/207941-vertex-rx-u-media-reactor-b.jpg (http://s1143.photobucket.com/user/CalmSeasQuest/media/Reef/CSQ%20Big%20Blue%20Wall/207941-vertex-rx-u-media-reactor-b.jpg.html)
These will run ROX0.8 and BRS HiCap GFO.

I've been torn between using a Kalk reactor or large still-well. I've decided to use 40 gallon brute which will be located next to the saltwater station. This removes more equipment from the cabinet, lessens maintenance and allows for the addition of vinegar to the ATO Kalk if desired.

I've also started acquiring livestock - The Mid Michigan Swap was a great success and I picked up more then 40 SPS and Acan frags. I also placed large orders with Pacific East Aquaculture and found some stunning Acans at Mr.Coral. All combined there are more than 100 new additions to the grow out tank en-route.

My initial reaction is that of disappointment.

The top O-ring on one unit is damaged, the O-ring on the other unit was badly twisted.

http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/n622/CalmSeasQuest/Reef/CSQ%20Big%20Blue%20Wall/DSC_3835.jpg (http://s1143.photobucket.com/user/CalmSeasQuest/media/Reef/CSQ%20Big%20Blue%20Wall/DSC_3835.jpg.html)

Although difficult to see in the photo, the section where the downtube and O-ring mates with the top-lid is badly scarred which, if left unpolished, I imaging would quickly destroy the O-ring.

http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/n622/CalmSeasQuest/Reef/CSQ%20Big%20Blue%20Wall/DSC_3837.jpg (http://s1143.photobucket.com/user/CalmSeasQuest/media/Reef/CSQ%20Big%20Blue%20Wall/DSC_3837.jpg.html)

One unit was supplied with a spare main O-ring (seen in the bottom of the right unit) whereas the other contained no spare.

http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/n622/CalmSeasQuest/Reef/CSQ%20Big%20Blue%20Wall/DSC_3834.jpg (http://s1143.photobucket.com/user/CalmSeasQuest/media/Reef/CSQ%20Big%20Blue%20Wall/DSC_3834.jpg.html)

My greatest disappointment is the overall design of the unit. I was willing to pay a premium for these as I had hoped they would provide the simplest/fastest cleaning and media replacement. The downtube O-ring has to be engaged 4 times for each cleaning and media replacement as both the top lid and top diffuser plate must be removed over the very tight-fitting O-ring on the downtube. It's very tedious to do. Based on the fact one O-ring was received damaged and the other twisted - Even with proper lubrication, it will seemingly result in a very short life and far too-frequent O-ring replacement.

I'll reach out to BRS and see how they and Vertex will handle the issues before determining if I keep these, or return them and choose alternate reactors.

Just heard from GLA, the tank is being built today and might be delivered as soon as this Sunday. :) I'm also having the back of the sump blacked out to minimize light leakage from partially un-skinned section of back of the stand.

RX-U 2.5L problems - I finally got a hold of BRS, they are shipping 2 replacement reactors. I also called Proline Aquatics (Vertex distributor) hoping to get a few replacement O-rings. They said they had none to sell currently as they needed them for warranty replacement. Apparently there as a manufacturing defect in some reactors where the O-ring channel was cut too shallow, resulting in a very tight fit and the O-ring being quickly destroyed.

Hopefully the replacements on the way from BRS won't be part of the defective group.

Geezzz just when I think I'm getting a handle on this build you go and throw me a curve ball. Now I gotta research what a Crossover Diet is-lol! What a learning experience your builds are for me. Thanks!

Ha comes with the AFS auto feeder for APEX. It is a dry food they sell. Crossover means formulated to feed coral and fish. I tried it when I got my feeder but went back to New Life Spectrum.

Another delay - GLA says the tank won't be delivered until next weekend.

The replacement media reactors arrived and appear to be free of the O-ring defect.
Since it seems it will be forever before the tank is ready for livestock, I ordered a bunch of additional livestock for the grow out tank including a Monti collection, a large group of Acans and a bunch of misc frags.
The ribbon LEDs to illuminate the cabinet arrived - 24 Watts of 6000K waterproof light

Since the tank has been delayed another week, I'm working on the plumbing, auto water change (ATO) and Constant Water Change (CWC). One of the challenges with the CWC is achieving the exact same rates for the removal of old saltwater and new saltwater replacement. Despite using a Masterflex peristaltic pump driving 2 pump heads at the exact same RPM, there will likely still be a difference in flow as one head will be pumping water against a ~10 head , while the other is drawing water, aided by gravity. My plan was to use a pinch valve on the faster line...

http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/n622/CalmSeasQuest/Reef/CSQ%20Big%20Blue%20Wall/pinchvalve.jpg (http://s1143.photobucket.com/user/CalmSeasQuest/media/Reef/CSQ%20Big%20Blue%20Wall/pinchvalve.jpg.html)

But I think I've found a better solution. Cole-Parmer makes pump heads that provide the ability to vary the occlusion rate (amount of pressure placed on the tubing by the rollers.)

http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/n622/CalmSeasQuest/Reef/CSQ%20Big%20Blue%20Wall/DSC_1152-1.jpg (http://s1143.photobucket.com/user/CalmSeasQuest/media/Reef/CSQ%20Big%20Blue%20Wall/DSC_1152-1.jpg.html)

I'll replace one of the fixed-occlusion pumps currently installed with the variable model. By slightly reducing the occlusion of the faster line (likely the drain), I hope to be able to tune the CWC pumps to run at the same rate. The 4 rollers should prevent any siphon.

My plan for the ATO is to use another Cole-Parmer pump and the left-over fixed occlusion pump head. Although I could rig a series of floats managed by the Apex, I've had great success with Tunze Osmolators, and will use another on this built with a Switched Socket Outlet, This allows me to replace the stock Osmolator pump with the Masterflex which provide adjustable flow rates, is impervious to the Kalk-laden top off water and can easily handle the head pressure.

You can see where much of the coral skeleton on the exterior has been dissolved. I also like that the underlying rock appears much more porous That said, in retrospect I wish I had just ordered more Reef Saver or Marco and avoided all the hassle - especially since there will be additional biological filtration provided by the Marine Pure spheres and plates.

As most of the recent purchases have been unexciting PVC plumbing, I ordered a couple of "trinkets" today...

I replaced the top 3/4" pressure line with a 1/2" Fill/Drain line. Using a T, a Wye and 3 valves, this single line/manifold can,

Feed RO/DI or ASW to the DT or stock tank in the basement
Drain the DT via siphon (~3GPM) or faster via manifold pressure line
Fill a local container with ASW or RO/DI
Drain the ASW or RO/DI tank

A total of 4 1/2" lines were ran for the tank

The red PVC is for the discharge on the Vertex media reactors. The red silicone tubing will feed the reactors from the manifold.

I'm starting to lay out the plumbing and realized how large (tall) the SP6 return pump is...

http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/n622/CalmSeasQuest/Reef/CSQ%20Big%20Blue%20Wall/DSC_3892.jpg (http://s1143.photobucket.com/user/CalmSeasQuest/media/Reef/CSQ%20Big%20Blue%20Wall/DSC_3892.jpg.html)

I had planned on including a check valve on the return line, not due to sump overflowing concerns as the sump will hold more than enough drainage, but rather a convenience to prevent the skimmer from overflowing. With the tall return pump, manifold/fuge feed and gate valve on the return, I might have to lose the check valve.

GEO 612 cleaned, refilled with Tropic Eden CR media and ~25% ZEO mag and ready for service...

Another reefer pointed out I could use a delay command to avoid the skimmer overflowing (Thank You h.cordero.) This turns out to be a simple solution that addresses most of the use cases for a check valve.

As I thought this through, I realized I have been looking for a mechanical solution to a problem that really doesn't exist, or at least isn't significant enough to warrant another device which requires maintenance and adds more unions (opportunity for leaks) to the plumbing.

With a simple delay command added to the Apex skimmer outlet,

Power failure - The return pump is on the UPS, so in the event of a power failure - it will continue run for at least 30 minutes providing enough time to get the generator online. A check valve wouldn't even come into play in this scenario.

Extended power outage/generator failure - In this case, the delay command would prevent the skimmer from restarting until after the return pump had restored normal water levels in the sump.

Maintenance requiring the return pump be shut off - If working on the pump or plumbing, simply trigger a feed cycle that pauses the skimmer during maintenance or manually shut off the skimmer if a longer period of time is needed.

The only use case I see where the check valve provides some value is in the event of return pump failure. But even in this case, I plan on using a sump high-water float to alert me of the problem, which can easily also shut off the skimmer. Add the fact that the size of the check valve further complicates my plumbing design and adds a small amount of additional head pressure - I come to the following conclusion...

For Sale - One never-used, 1 1/4" check valve.

I was hoping I'd be posting photo's of my newly delivered tank at this moment, but it was not to be.

Delivery of the stand and sump went fine. When the tank was brought in and placed on the stand, I grabbed a couple of large LED flashlights and began the inspection. When I got to the dead center of the front of the tank, I found multiple scratches both inside and out.

My heart sank...

Had they been on the end panels, or perhaps toward the bottom I might have been able to overlook them - but dead center front panel, I could not accept.

To his credit, Steve and Great Lakes Aquariums acknowledged the problem and immediately loaded the tank back in their trailer. They hope to have a replacement tank built and delivered in 30 days.

I've got a few weeks remaining before the replacement tank is delivered, so I started to lay out the equipment in the sump and estimate the plumbing and electrical runs. I installed 32' of waterproof LED ribbon lights (48 Watts total) in the top of cabinet that will function as work lights.

http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/n622/CalmSeasQuest/Reef/CSQ%20Big%20Blue%20Wall/DSC_3937.jpg (http://s1143.photobucket.com/user/CalmSeasQuest/media/Reef/CSQ%20Big%20Blue%20Wall/DSC_3937.jpg.html)

They are much brighter than they appear - They are only running at about 60% while I wait on an new power supply. Eventually, I'll add a few door switches and connect them to the Apex via the break-out box so the cabinet is illuminated whenever a door is opened.

I think I might need to change my plans for Ca and Alk supplementation on the grow-out tank. It's a 100 gallon stock tank, holding ~70 gallons. It's currently stocked with about 100 pieces including a few larger SPS colonies and a very large clam with another 70 frags on the way. Present CA and Alk demand is requiring ~250ml/Day of 2-part. At this rate, I'm going through 1 gallon of each 2-part every 15 days. On such a small system, this is resulting in salinity creep requiring the removal of about 6 gallons of saltwater a month. I expect the demand to about double once the remaining corals arrive.

I may replace the current 2-part dosing system with my existing GEO612 CaRx and purchase a new, larger reactor for the 270. I haven't researched Calcium Reactors in a long time. Anything better than our trusty GEOs with AP Carbon Dosers?

For a system the size you are planning, that Ca Reactor will be able to keep up for about 3 months. ;) With as much space as you have to work with, I would look at something that holds 30-35 pounds of media at least. I am sure the continuous water changes will help with demand as well, but I'm not real sure how to quantify that.

I agree, I'll need a larger CaRx. I've been researching trying to decide on a large GEO, or perhaps the SRO-CR5000D.

Unfortunately I am STILL waiting on the replacement tank. GLA had indicated it would be delivered today, but that was cancelled due to an issue in delivery staffing.

While I continue to acquire livestock for the grow out tank, it's disappointing that I ordered the tank on December 18, 2013 and it's now mid April 2014 and still no tank. I had hoped to use the winter months to get the tank up and going. Now that we're into Spring, there are many other demands on time including getting Gracie out from under cover and back on the road...

Hopefully the tank will be delivered next week.

Thanks for the updates CSQ! Especially for the pics, as some of the lingo leaves me confused- lol
I believe a ride would definitely take your mind off of things for a bit. Beautiful bike!

I've been thinking about a bike lately. Not really sure why, but the idea appeals to me. :D

Back to topic, is GLA giving you some dollars off for the delay? I know that our "season" is coming to an end, but you will certainly HAVE to keep on this, so you are ready to come next season.

After 5 long months of waiting, my tank was finally delivered yesterday...

GLA stated the delays were due problems in getting scratch-free glass. After having to refuse the first tank, I closely inspected this one and found no scratches in the glass however - I'm concerned about the presence of multiple voids (air gaps) in the seams. The glass is 3/4"...

http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/n622/CalmSeasQuest/Reef/CSQ%20Big%20Blue%20Wall/DSC_3977.jpg (http://s1143.photobucket.com/user/CalmSeasQuest/media/Reef/CSQ%20Big%20Blue%20Wall/DSC_3977.jpg.html)
Right seam, about midway - 1" long

http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/n622/CalmSeasQuest/Reef/CSQ%20Big%20Blue%20Wall/DSC_3978.jpg (http://s1143.photobucket.com/user/CalmSeasQuest/media/Reef/CSQ%20Big%20Blue%20Wall/DSC_3978.jpg.html)
Right seam, bottom, about 3/4" long

http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/n622/CalmSeasQuest/Reef/CSQ%20Big%20Blue%20Wall/DSC_3981.jpg (http://s1143.photobucket.com/user/CalmSeasQuest/media/Reef/CSQ%20Big%20Blue%20Wall/DSC_3981.jpg.html)
Left seam, bottom - top void 3/4", bottom void 2"

The bottom seam is covered by trim and the back is painted black, so I cannot see those seams. When I asked about the voids, I was told these were common when using black silicone and were of no concern. If this tank were taller or rimless, I would have been more concerned, but as it's braced and only 22" tall, I thought the explanation might be plausible. Even so, it still represents ~325 gallons of saltwater sitting in my living room.

So here's the question - Should I be concerned about the seams? As this is my first large tank, I'd really appreciate the thoughts and comments from those with more large, glass-tank experience.

Thanks in advance!

no i wouldnt my tank is 220 96 L 24 high 24 w. the tank is held together by the frame but i wouldnt be to worried about it. if anything the tank might leak but it wont come crashing down and if it dose leak u will know, just wont notice for few days cuz it will be a small leak. but i wouldnt worry, fill it up the worst could happen is drain it back down re seal tank. but i think with the weight of the water i think u should b ok.

I wouldn't be concerned at all. I'd fill that up, and start enjoying the beauty of it.

Thanks Chris, :)

While Cindi and I did have a chance to put a few miles on Gracie over the summer, my absence is do to business commitments that included a great deal of travel. The tank still sits dry. It will be after the Holidays before I have time to resume the build.

ps. Gracie and been covered, put on the battery tender and tucked away to wait out the winter months. She sits in the garage next to another project - A newly acquired Trilogy Marauder.

The new Trilogy resembles my other Marauder (below), except it has a blower and ~450RWHP :)

I hope to get the tank up over winter as next summer looks like it will be very busy. Thank's for all the comments - Looking forward to resuming the project.

I don't have time to read this entire thread at the moment, but what size tank you building to fit that Marauder? :)
