Sun coral gift

I have a friend who wants to give up his 20 polyp dendrophyllia, but it has bubble algae on it. Should i take it or pass on it? I don't want bubble algae in my tank

How bad is the bubble algae? You should just be able to remove it before you put it in your tank

If you are willing to properly care for it then DO IT! They are really cool corals.

As ReefTech already stated you should be able to remove the bubble algae. Just get all that you see initially then carefully inspect the coral weekly (and remove all that you find) and you should be able to keep it from establishing in your tank.

As stated - you can remove it outside of the tank (and dispose of any water you might be doing this in) before putting the new coral in. Emerald Crabs are another means of controlling bubble algae if it find its way in the tank...

I picked it up yesterday and counted 31 polyps on it sweeeeeeeet! I picked off all bubble algae so its clean on way into tank. The first polyp opened tonite at 9pm so i'm expecting it to open more tomorrow. as soon as i charge my camera i'll post pic

That's a great coral specimen! (Jealous.) Just remember to pick off the bubble algae OUTSIDE the tank. If you see them elsewhere in the tank, try to remove them without bursting the bubbles...

I have learned that sally crabs will eat those bubbles too. Fun crabs to have, for a while... Though, eventually they also ate all my bottom dwelling fish...

I got the bubble off outside the tank. I'm a little concerned today as the coral won't open up. I sprayed some juice from my feeding cup over the coral and its been about a half hour and no response. Is there any ideas on how to get it to open? The polyps are fat and round, i'm hoping its just getting used to tank
