Are you an Ann Arbor Area Reefer?
An Ann Arbor area reefer is anyone interested in participating in our local swap and events, from all areas surrounding Ann Arbor. Places including, but are not limited to-
Brighton, Howell, Pinkney, Dexter, Chelsea, Hamburg, Whitmore Lake, Ypsilanti, Bellville, Adrian, Willis, Romulus, Westland, livonia, South Lyon, Saline, Manchester, Unidilla, Canton, Adrian and Grass lake, just to name a few.
Even further out are welcome also, if you dont mind the drive to take part in an occasional get together! If you dont mind the drive, we welcome the company! Members of other clubs, or even multiple clubs are welcome also.
If this group interests you, post a reply. Our last members list is a bit outdated....and there are alot of new faces on the boards. Best way to stay in the loop, and not get left out of anything is to subscribe to club forum, to get automatic emails when new threads and posts are posted.
Some of our past get togethers include-
The Ann Arbor Swap
A2 Reefers reef food making meet
Fragging demonstrations
Members tanks visits
The Fish Doctor Tom's Time Machine Band meet and greet
Carpools to Non-local Swaps
Holiday get togethers/prime rib dinners with other clubs
Pre-swap and post swap parties
And hoping to do some fish store tours and BBQ's when the weather breaks!

Sounds like fun, my husband and I are interested. We do live quite a ways away(Hillsdale) but we don't mind a drive and have attended the Dexter and Lansing swaps and plan to attend the swap in March.

Hey !! We not in da club anymore ??? Lol
You 2 always have been, and I hope, always will be.
Just giving a new roll call, for 2014. Alot of area reefers in the past 3 years have gotten out, moved on, or just arent interested. A new list was absolutely needed.
I am very happy to say, we got another really great list of local reefers.
I was going to PM you, if you didnt reply soon- ha!

Hi Chris/all,
I just moved to AA from Maryland in March. I'd like to join the club. A little background on my reefing: I am in the process of setting up my first reef, 58 gal. Previously, I used the same tank for a FOWLR. I lost a battle to cyano, and then the big move happened. So I'm looking to restart and get a little deeper into the hobby.

Is this club still active?
Sir Patrick
02-25-2015, 11:54 AM
Good question Bart.
I think the answer is participation. We have a great active members list, all with great tanks, but seems like most are just very busy.
Alot of our more social members have gotten out of the hobby, which has caused activity to slow down drastically.
With the new career change, and my basement mancave/tank build on hold, it has become difficult to host any kind of get togethers. I am hoping that will change soon though.
Anyone have any ideas?
Sir Patrick

Is this club still active?
Yes, We are all still here, and active in the hobby, just not very active in the group activity department. Would be great to see this change.

Is there an actual webpage for the club? Or is it all through this site?

If you guys wanted, I could help you get one going. I designed and manage the sites for MMMC and GRMAS now.
Mid-Michigan Marine Club (http://www.midmichiganmarineclub.org)
Grand Rapids Marine Aquarium Society (http://www.grmas.net)
These are simple sites that give you a place holder on the net (GRMAS is setup on wordpress which makes it easy to post an update). It costs roughly $25 per year between hosting and domain registration. I charge nothing to set it up and manage. My hope is that you'll continue to use CR for your forum needs.

We have had 2 webpages/forums for the club in the past...both crashed and burned....
Have yet to find a computer savy individual commited to a long term commitment.
Jimsflies- I would like to talk to you further on this subject soon, thank you!
Sir Patrick

Mike-
Currently we are here, on CR, and MR for our forums and communication and we have a facebook page, in effort to build membership.

I don't plan on going any where any time soon. I wouldn't want to manage another forum, but would be happy to put together a nice looking wordpress site with a link to CR for club discussion. Wordpress has the ability to comment to posts as well...but IME wordpress is highly susceptible to spam posts.

Did this ever get up and running? If not do we want to start something up? I'm in the canton area and would love to do more/learn with reefing. I'd be willing to host the first time to get it going.
Sir Patrick

It went well for a couple years a couple years ago...but then crashed.
I made a series of moves and had a couple more children, and many active members retired from the hobby.
I am still working on a place to host, but if you want- ShockSniper, you can use this area on these forums to put something together. I will gladly help get word around if you wanted to host a local get together. There are still a lot of local reefers out there, Ive found out the past few weeks.
