Incompetent Care Taker

I'm not sure what the water parameters are right now but my care taker decided that over feeding the fish by dropping the frozen cubes right into my 24g nano with 2 fish in it was the right way to feed them with specific instructions as to feeding. This was done twice a day 2 cubes each time. Water is Seafoam green. I did a 50% change yesterday and am inquiring as to how soon I can do another to get the water back to, oh yeah, clear. As you can tell I'm more upset than anything with the care taker and could kill him. Please suggestions are needed.

i would wait at least a week. a 50% WC is HUGE in a nano tank. but it really depends on what is in it.

after reading your post and seiing your pics, Angie is right, you can probably get away with with doing another water change in the next day or two. just keep an eye on the fish. you may even want to put them in another tank until you get this all figured out and the water back under control.

Thanks. I finally got ahold of Ang. She's going to come over tomorrow to take a look and we are going to try something.

You can tell them what we are doing. You make it sound so secretive. I plan on useing my little filter and running some carbon on the tank. I've also suggested another water change after we see where the levels are. We'll get it back on track and next time the care taker will be me not someone that don't know what they are doing.

Any other suggestions on how to clean this up quick will be helpful.

I just didn't want type that much. I'm lazy right now I just came back from vacation. I checked the parameters. PH is still at 8.2-8.4, Ammonia is 0, Nitrites are 0, and Nitrates are between 20-40 right now. The fish are okay right now. The only one wigging out is my Clown. He's just swinnging all over the place. The Hawk seems to be okay. He's acting normal. Hopefully they are doing okay. Everything else is okay. For the first time my Phosphates are up. They are at about 1.0.

Drop bck to 15-20% waterchanges every couple three days and things will settle back down... Running the carbon would be a good thing... might want to consider doing it full time (just remember to change it every week or so until things settle down.

2 things to add to your filter system, ammonia and nitrate removal pads (like pura pads) along with the carbons.this will speed up the reduction.a little prime also goes along way when it comes to nutrilizing ammonia and nitrates(should reduce risk of hair algae) prime is safe to use up to 5x recomended dose for emergecies.reef safe
