At the risk of sounding totally ignorant, how long are the bulbs for a 46.5 inch lighting system. My tank is 48 inches long but I bought a 46.5inch setup so I would have a little room to move around. So are the bulbs 46.5 inches long or is it the bulb AND endcap that equal 46.5 inches long?

Also, do the URI VHO Super Actinic Bulbs have a built in reflector and if so how does it work?

i believe just the bulbs are 46.5". sounds like you got a retro kit ?? if so you should be fine in a 48" tank.
my URI super blue actinics,white actinics(soon to be 10,000k), or 10,000k's dont have a built in reflector. i use polished aluminum flashing (available at Home Depot for $10) as my reflectors. i cut it into 6" strips, bend it into 2x2x2 reflectors, and mount it in my canopy, then mount the VHO standoff screws through the aluminum.

I think the measurement is total with caps. I Know the light for my 20 inch pc is actually only 18.5.
