How far would a 175W HQI lamp penetrate into the water? I'm thinking not far enough for a tank that is 31" deep, right? I saw a complete set up that has 1 175 w HQI,(with tempered glass splash guard) 2-24w CF actinics, and 2 moonlights with cooling fans all in one lighting hood for a decent price. I'm just afraid it won't do any good in a tank this deep.
Any help would be appreciated. Only macros and softies will be in this tank as it is my sea horse tank.
TIA,
Angie

Well for your tank it should do, however I would recommend a t5 fixture for your tank. It will save you alot of money in the long run for your electric bill. I suspect that is a 150w hqi. As far as know they do not make a 175 HQI. They only make 70w, 150w, 250w and 1000w hqi's so far. I like hqi fixtures don't get me wrong I use 3- 250hqi's but they are best suited for sps IMO.

Here is the link to the fixture. I says 175w HQI.

I bought 2- 36" CF (PC) light fixtures from them in March and they work well. Bulbs are low quality, but I will replace them earlier then needed and with better quality lamps. I want the fixture, I can always switch out lamps, lol.
Thank you for the help.

Oh, I already thought of using the T5's, but they are too long. The smallest I could find is a 24W which is 24" long. My tank is only 20 X 18.
