After I emptied the 55g so I could use the same stand I piped in the supply and return pipes then made a terrible mistake of leveling it after I made the connections.

Didn't notice it until I filled the tank halfway so now it's time to go buy a new tank and try again

I need to put the ato on and strap the pipe and pickup a skimmer but getting things done also need to pipe the return to the other side of the sump

Dmmz

I have the ato ready to go installed the floats in the sump.
I am using my home made heater control using a thermostat with a sensor put in the sump that will turn off and on the heater so if the heater sticks in the on position the thermostat will cut off power to it and not allow it to over heat. Will use it until I get an apex control

Today I hooked up my new sump I picked up from Vicki. This setup is a lot better than using only the 100g rubbermaid

Things are looking good, Dennis. I wish I had a basement so I could do a basement sump. It's got to me nice to have the business end of the reef hidden like that.

Do you have something under that tub? I had a basement sump and having that rubbermaid tub on the floor really cooled the tank a LOT. I ended up adding some 2x4's under the tub to create an air gap between the tub and cold concrete.

Looks like you are off to a great start!

+1. I have a friend who did the same with his Rubbermaid. In the winter months his heaters hardly never turned off.Even with a finished heated basement. We put some two inch hard foam under it(home depot sells it for insulating crawl spaces) and it made all the difference! We then wrapped the the outside with the hot water tank insulation. Reduced the electric bill by a lot. System looks great! Nice job

I agree with creefer, must be great to have a basement sump. I know if I had one I would do the hot water tank heater mod for sure!! Very easy to do,all ya need is a selanoid valve ,small inline circulation pump and some plastic tube. You can control it with an Apex or pin point heater controller. No more heater issues and cost a tenth of what electric heaters cost to run!

I will be adding pex tubing in the rubbermaid and a pump to heat the water and next water change I will put the foam under it thanks for the information just wish I did it before filling the system

I knocked on my downstairs neighbors door and asked if I could put my aquarium filtration in his dining room, surprisingly, he said NO! ;)

The good thing about those tubs, you can lift them from the lip pretty easy, and have a friend slide the foam under. Easy peasy. :P

Oh, if that is a PAR 38 LED bulb in that sump light, take off the reflector. If that is an LED in there, the reflector is holding in heat and will shorten bulb life.

Yes it is a led going downstairs now to take it off thanks

Whatever price the surgeon charges I will do it for half. I have a fragging saw, some bone cutters, razor blades, and super glue. I do coral surgery all the time. Back surgery can't be that difficult.

Seriously though I hope you get sorted out without surgery. Keep in mind that surgeons always think you need surgery. That's what they do. Be careful and good luck!
