so here is the short deal. i will be going back to red sea salt as it fared best out of every one. there is no qualitative data yet but just through observations red sea kicked arse and I.O. did the worst. go figure.
i took detailed notes and tons of pics so i will catch this up when i get back. congrats to red sea and they have a R.O. formula that i am going to switch to as soon as my salt stash has been used.

It sure is thoughtful of you to let those of us know what goes on at MACNA! It will be great to see the pictures and such when you get back. The rest of your friends here at Captive Reefing sure appreciate the fact that you care enough to give us a peek into what you are seeing there! It's the next best thing to being there! Thanks again! ....Angel :angel1:

hey mum, thanx a million for the info. looks like i am switching also,i was using I.O, but no more if they say it did the worst. i will want to see your notes when you get home if you dont mind !? thanx again buddy, it was like being there without the crowd and with all the comforts of home. lol

Ok now I am jealous

yeah i am thinking of switching back myself. i stopped using red sea as there was always undisolved product in the mix water that bothered me. the control tank did the very best and outperformed all the others ,it was natural sea water and red sea came the closest to the control tank. i have both computer and written notes as my puter battery gave out half way through, i do have all but one of the slide shots of the tanks and the progression over the tenth month period...very cool.
they also announced that the next one will be held in pittsburg...so if that is in anybodys local area please come check it out. i and the wifey have already signed up...i think it would be great to see a contingent from CR go and represent.it will be september 14,15 &16 2007 so maybe we could all try and plan ahead. i love this event and am going to attempt to make it every year.
at the banquet we sat with some really neat people but my time is limited so i will get into that later.

on another note. do you think it's ok to post the presentation pics? i have no permission to do so. maybe i should contact eric first?

Probably a good idea to contact him. He may have a link with all of them on there all ready.

Presentation pics? Depends on the content, if they were general public type stuff there shouldn't be any problem, however if they were part of the actual presentation then obtaining permission nefore posting would be best... however a narrative of what information you gleaned would be great.
I have my own convictions about salt mix, and IO fell to the shortlist in a hurry... always tested for crap. Any mention of where Oceanic fell in the order presented in the inpromptu comparisons? Not that we'd ever try switching from it again, but more for curiosity's sake.
BTW I'm working on getting at least one pair of tickets for the one coming up in Chicago :)

oceanic was some where in the middle. it was long to cycle but started to turn around towards the end. lots of mortalities though. i do believe it had the most zoanthid growth.

I've got it stashed in my email somewhere, I'll post it later this evening.

Thanks for the info.... in some ways that makes sense given the rate of zonthid growth we saw in Angel's Zoa farm she had going, and is slowly rebuilding.

The one is Chicago is IMAC. You can see the info HERE (http://www.theimac.org/) and is taking place on June 1,2 & 3.
I'll be going in 2007.

i am talking to Eric right now and asked for permission to post them, mummra !! i will post his reply here so there is no confusion. i asked for permission to post pics AND notes !!
lReef lKeeper
09-26-2006, 05:39 PM
well here is the reply from Eric ...
Yes, he has my permission but with the caveat that a link be posted to the thread here in my forum in that I have not yet done the statistics to determine which if any salts truly stand out for better or worse. The only information I presented was qualitative, and I wouldn't go running out and changing salts quite yet, especially if the tank seems fine under current use. I will be writing much much more about this as real results come in.

ok so eric has said that he will be making the slide presentation available some time after this week end. checking through my pics you can not tell which tanks are which and they seem fuzzy (i lost my slr type to a malfuntion and only had a hand held). i would rather wait till eric makes it available so we can see the whole thing clearly and in it's completed form (i missed like two or three slides as they were going really fast). thoughts?
it does pay to know some one...maybe you could get him to send you a copy faster so we could all see it sooner (as my pics turned out like shhhh) that would be awesome.
the wife and i are also thinking of splitting our vacation so we could go to both IMAC and MACNA. who all her will be attending either event?

I think you are right about having someone from CR there. Such a smart fella we have as a member! I'd love to go to something like that. Please HINT to my husband DAKAR that his wife is so deserving of a nice vacation like that, and how surprised she'd be if he took her!! lol Our Anniversary (8 Years) is coming up November 21st. It would be so perfect! Everyone, please nag and hound the man.

DAKAR, if you bring your wife to IMAC I bet I can convince her to dress up in a cute pirates outfit for you (to come to a seahorse pirate party..... you know you'd love it).
Reef_Angel
09-28-2006, 02:12 PM
It may not be a pirates outfit, cause I'm not that skimpy unfortunately. I will however dress up as the medieval wench that the pirates want to capture, and Dakar can be my pirate! hehehe... That could be fun!
