Well,since i'm setting up a new tank soon(40 breeder)I'll be adding a closed loop.I need some ideas/pics on how it should be done.Pump sizes,PVC diameter,etc.. basically how you guys/gals are doing yours.Should i have the tank drilled? or go with an over the back setup?

Is the new tank pre-drilled or are you having it drilled for you? If you are might save yourself some trouble by having a couple extras drilled in the back for your loop, provided the overflows are going to be on the bottom, not a lot of real estate to drill on the back and I'd worry too many holes would weaken it too much. But for a 40 gal, a Mag2 or 3 with close to 0' head would probably do nicely, quiet and only burn 24/35 watts power. I've grown very partial to the Mag's, they've been very reliable for me so far.
For more ideas In case you missed it I posted a huge table with all the pump manufactures specs/ratings and such on all of them I could find here;

I run ours 'up and over' style with a Mag 12 and it works very well. Pipes up and over aren't the prettiest to look at but the corals help out there. :)
Drilling would work too, definately nicer as far as having pipes hanging in the tank, easier to hide.

The tank is being drilled on the bottom in the rear coraner for the overflow.I could have it drilled for the loop.Where would the best place be to have the intake drilled?.I would think it would still need to be accessible as to remove and clean the intake strainer/screen.The return i plan on going over the top and splitting it off into 2- 1/2"returns

I would say if your having the intake drilled, may as well have the outputs drilled as well. No sense in doing it half way. :)
Don't know best places to do it so can't help you there.
