View Full Version : Tanks, Sumps & Refugiums Bowback? Am I insane?

Apart from the fact that Bobby and Don will call me insane no matter what I say, I thought I'd bounce this off of people.

I've got a 26G bowfront sitting in my garage collecting dust. The main reason that I took it down was because it was a pain to keep clean with the curved front glass. (I'm lazy)

What about flipping it around and using the flat part as the "front" of the tank and having a bowback? It might lead to some neat aquascaping because you could pile rocks up and utilize that room (although it's not tons of room) for rocks/corals and stuff and it would be easier to mag-float the flat "front" of the tank.

Just a crazy thought. :)

I say go with it... depth with no distortion!!! I've thought of doing the same thing with a 500 gl.

i second the motion! bowfronts are pretty furniture, but the distortion really sux.

I'm assuming it's a clear back...lol. Well, Bobby did say you were insane :-) Maybe if it was a black back you were going to go for the "Reef at Night" look.

You'll have to take pictures!

Right now it does have a black back, but it's just spraypaint. 5 minutes and a fresh razor blade will take care of that!!!

I almost fainted for a split second when ya mentioned the razor.... I forget there are glass tanks out there.

I say go for it! You don't have near enough tanks set up yet.....

Then again I still have the glass neatly stacked in a pile from our 'overflowing tank' idea, I even drilled the bottom! Wonder where the motivation went on that idea. There might be a lesson in that one... keeping you, me, and Greg out of the chatroom at the same time for days on end.

i heard about people doing that, it makes it look like the tank keeps going on forever if you paint it blue... or so i have read...

so go for it... as long as you give us pictures!

It's all yours... we'll have to get a meet&greet hooked up and get it to you.

this is insane ... i have been thinking about drilling a 4" hole into the ends of 2 tanks, getting a 3 15/16" piece of acrylic tube and connecting the 2 tanks with it !! sounds cool, but could be disasterous. of course they would be on the same same sump system, but i would HAVE to have a few PH's in each for water movement.

We had a huge sump that was connected that way.
