I have a 20 long tank that I want to use for just corals. I need some suggestions for lighting. Right now I have 220watts of lighting that can be put on. My corals still don't seem to thrive. Salinity is at 1.023. This tank has been set up for 4 years. I have bubble algae and mushrooms and anemone's that thrive but no other corals. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Money is a factor as other people have to be able to keep these also. Otherwise what corals can thrive in smaller tanks with very little lighting? Thank You

Mushrooms/false corals and some polyps should fair well. Chemical warfare could be an issue... are you running a good reef safe carbon? How's your ca and alk, your temp, and how old are the bulbs. I recommend strong, indirect random currents, a refugium(on reverse day light), and a SG of around 1.025-1.026.

Is this tank skimmed? What kind and how deep is your SB?I'm guessing after 4yrs,you might have elevated nutrients(not neccessariiy in the water). There are many LPS/softies/and some SPS like Pavona that will thrive in small tanks such as yours

After actually seeing the tank in question yesterday, lighting alone is not going to do it. The HOB filter with a passive carbon bag, though helping with circulation, is quite frankly is not going to cut it. There is no real means for nutrient export, the substrate alone cannot support the bio load. The addition of some live rock and a skimmer would improve water quality tremendously.

As a side note, the 4 anenomes (though of the same species) in that small a water column is likely not helping matters. Some sort of clean up crew in there to help remove detritus and stir up the substrate can only be helpful as well.
