hey everyone after 13 days of my gal tank running with nothing but lr i decided to buy my daughter her clown and wouldent ya know she named it nemo just like a 5 year old to do anyways it was swimming in the tank all happy go lucky welll i decided it was lights out and left it be for a bout 3 hrs i wanted to check on it before i went too bed let me tell ya what i was scared to death to see it laying on its side on top on my magnet cleaner near the top of the tank. my question is is that normal? what i did next was turn the light on a few secs to really get a look at him he started to move a lil but not much he mostly swam to the cornor of the tank and hovered at the top .....now i know i'm in the new phaze of what most call the kill everything till ya learn but i thought i really had a grip on it we had the water tested 4 times befor i got this costly lil fish btw its only a baby clown too about the size of a penny any help on the matter would be great

thanks :)

a lot of clownfish do hover near the top of the tank and sleep somewhere that it safe. what i noticed about the post was this ... "after 13 days of my gal tank running with nothing but lr i decided to buy my daughter her clown".

is your cycle done ?? i have never had a tank cycle completely in under 3 weeks. i am not saying it cant or didnt, but it NEVER has for me.

I would buy a test kit and make sure you keep your paramiters in check. Also see if the fish store has BIO-SPIRA. I know some people here don't agree with the bacteria in a bottle methods as most of them are junk but I used it in my 35 hex and put a damsel in as a test (2 hours after first bringing the tank home). I used all new sand and water with a couple of LR's from another tank and after a few days put in my clown, blue tang, lmb, cleaner shrimp and a golden headed sleeper goby. ALL IS WELL. This suff worked for me and if I where you I would get some to help complete your cycle.

well the good news is nemo isent a floater.... also my lr is growing well with lil red spuds on them as well as orange ,green, and seems some purpleand as far as the cycle i belive it is done and i should have stated that i have had 2 mollies living in the tank since day one i'm sorry that part last night sliped my mind becase i was worried about my daughters fish..... wasent sure how to explain that her fish had died... but sofar i dont havbe to do that :P and as far as the test goes i have one now and also took 3 samples to 3 diff fish stores just to me on the extra safe side they all agreed that i could start adding fish at any time that my ammonia was at 0 and i cant recall if it was either both nitrite and nitrate lvl's were at 0 as well only thing they sugested is that i do a 5 gal water change before dripping the fish. i did that. then driped the fish for like 2 hrs .....dripping is the term they used at the fish store settine a slow drip to the fish bag so that the fish got used to the water change very slowly my drip rate was about 15 drops every 2 mins or so. i just hope there are no problems for the lil guy becase my daughter woke up for school this morning came out to see her fish told it to be good and i'll see you when i get home this afternoon.......well now she wants dori and a daddy clown this kid is gonna break me sonner or later hehehe

FYI: A fish store will tell you anything to get you to spend money there, even if it's incorrect or a danger to critters.

be extremely careful when you end up buying it, they are ICH MAGNETS. you will definately need to QT that fish, and have ICH meds ready to go.

well remember i'm new to this yet $25.00 is alot for a fish i was only ever used to paying around 10.00 and less up untill now hehe.
and as far as a fish store telling ya anything just to make a sale yeah some places that may be true but i have built up a repore with 2 of my lfs's anuff that at one of them i get things at cost. and the other only sells me what is needed not all the over the hill extras.

also there is a term i havent yet learned well there are many terms hehe but what is Qt?

Glad to hear Nemo is doing well! You should get a pic of your daughter next to "her" fish! ;)

just a little caviat a lot of pros with hippo tangs will tell you to make sure that one is eating well at the store, when you bring him home, float him and then do a freshwater dip and put him right in b/c they are so fragile that quarantining them is harder on them than just putting them in. i think bob fenner and anthony calfo have said this on wwm but dont remember if thats where i read it

i have had mime for over a year and they still scare me sometimes. they sleep on their rock and if you turn thier light on before they want it on (or i left it on to long the night before) they stay asleep for a few mins and then start swimming sleeply around the tank. they perk up after awhile but it is a very scary cute moment
