Help on my home RO/DI system.

Alright gang! I've decided to setup a home RO/DI system. Its probably going ot be this one:

I plan on running it off of the washer cold water feed, and installing a valved wye (picture two) onto that cold water feed, then running one line to the RO/DI unit, and the other to the washer. The "waste" or drain line from the RO/DI unit will be fed into the same place for the drain of the washer.

The green looking jumble on both pics is a coiled up tubing that will be used to run across the apartment to my tank when needed. I had debated (and still may) set up a 5 gal water cooler with a float valve and ASOV because we'll probably use that for drinking water as well!

Would any or all of this work?

Looks like it would work fine to me. You may want to check the gallons per day rateing if you are going to be useing this unit for drinking. Also I would deffinately keep a reserve of water mad for top-offs and so you have some if you need to do an emergency water change. I would hate to have an emergency and think I just sent the last of my water down the toilet.

Alright, i've got another ro/di question... are these features needed in a ro/di system?

fast flush
dibypass
RO only valves.

If not needed, how nice are they to have?

Fast flush would be really nice to do just that before you make new water. But the other two I don't see you useing a lot as then it would only be RO not RO/DI

Bypassing the DI would be useful for water that you're going to use for drinking/cooking etc...

I see! Thanks for the feedback! The reason I am asking is b/c the unit I listed above is 129.99, and there is a similar model (with the features that I inquired about above) for 199.99. The 199.99 model also comes w/ a $25.00 TDS meter btw (which I had planned on getting anyway). So, I guess the question is: is it worth $55.00 for those 3 features?

Also, eric/joe... for drinking/cooking water... why don't I use the DI? Just curious.

DI can add a funky taste to the water. There's also dome debate that I've read online as to the health issues with drinking DI water.

D.I. water is not good for you to drink.....doesnt rehydrate you!!!!

DI stands for deionized.

Not necessary,but highly recommend best water you can use for reefs....aside from mother nature=ocean....just my 2 cents

This should work fine the one you would probably want is on the bottom of page 2.

The only problem that i've found about the "ebay units" is that they come only in one plain, vanilla flavor. if you spend the xtra 30 bucks, you can order from a company like the one i listed above, and prior to ordering, send them a copy of your local water quality report, and they'll configure a system that will work best for your needs!
