Hydor 150w I set the heater for 79. Placed it in my sump. Then using a glass thermometer & digital, waited for temp to reach 79 I then plugged the heater in. Right away the heater is on. So I dialed it down till it shut off.

That sounds like what I do. Just keep a close watch on the temp for the next few day to be sure the heater is truely set at 79 and you should be good.

Ok something's going on and I cannot figure it out. Couple hours ago temp was 79.9 a drop from 81. Just now checked and it's up to 80. Heater is cold to the touch. My house is 72. Furnace no longer running.
What is causing this temp swing?! I've got the skimmer pump, return pump and Gyre XF130. Fuge light is a little 5w LED, no heat from that at all.

What brand and model are the two pumps? Is it possible that the thermometer is not accurate?

The return is a Sicce Syncra 2.0 and the skimmer pump is 110-120V/60Hz 28watt, (1380 L/h)
Well I'm using both a digital and glass. Getting same readings from both.

Well it seems removing the heater from the return chamber and putting it in the fuge area amongst higher flow and recalibrating it, did the trick. Tanks been at 79.2 all day! [emoji106]

Ahhh, good flow is key. I was racking my brain trying to figure out the hear source.

Thought for sure I had this Hydor 200w heater calibrated. NOT! Got up this am to a tank temp of 82.3, nothing major but the heater itself was set for 79. House temp was 72. I took it out completely! Cleaned the glass & digital thermometers and now my tank temp is 77.6.
I ordered/received a Ehiem Jäger Thermostat Heater 150w. See how this one works.
