Best RO Unit?

Now that I have 2 tanks (3 if you include the girlfriends) the volume of water is evaporating is extremely large. I was interested in an RO unit and was wondering the best one (for a good price) I know the gallons per XX makes a difference in price, Im not in a hurry so any decent amount of gallons is ok with me. Maybe a 10GPD or 20GPD w/e is affordable and GOOD. (Mainly good!!)

the maxxima hi-s by kent is what i have and is a great unit.
the model number so u can shop around is MAX35HiS
it's a 35 gpd and i think you should be able to find it for around the 200 ballpark unless you shop on ebay or similar and it's an ro/di unit and IMO that's the only way to go.

I just got my RO/DI from airwaterice.com (www.airwaterice.com). It was 200.00 and works GREAT it even came w/ a TDS tester... Its made for reefers, and is a 5 stage unit with a vertical DI chamber (a MUST) the horozontal ones fail ALOT. Its a 100gpd unit. It takes my inlet 140ish TDS down to zero. Also, if you go online and get a copy of your local city/county water report, they'll adjust the system to best filter your water quality for no extra charge. Plus this unit comes with di bypass, ro water only, and fast flush features... All are very nice to have... Here's the unit I bought. Not to knock that unit, but its either only an 4-stage unit, or its got a horozontal DI filter, neither of which are good with reefkeeping. You'll get much better filterd water (mineral wise) with a vertical DI unit and the extra stage/filter.

Even being fair, the typhoon 3 is the same amount of $, comes with 5 stages, and a TDS tester (a must have), and a vertical DI chamber, fast flush (for easy cleaning of the membrane), di bypass, and ro only water (drinking and cooking water), plus you get 100gpd vs the other's 35gpd...

Just my 2 cents.

I always recommend the 100gpd over a slower unit. I know others recommend a 75gpd unit because many have a better rejection rate. Here's the thing: If the water coming out of your unit is 0 TDS at 75gpd or 100gpd, does it matter? What you want is pure water, and personally I want it as fast as I can make it.

The unit I use for my own tanks is 100gpd. That means I can make 5g in an hour in the summer. In the winter when the water is colder, it takes 85 minutes to make the same amount of water. If you have a 35gpd unit and water conditions are optimum, it'll take 1.5 hrs to produce a gallon of water. In an emergency, and those do happen, you need water and you need it now.

Speed is not a problem for me, but quality is. What the big difference about these two? One has an extra filtration?

The differences that I'm aware of are:

The typhoon has:

1 Extra carbon filtration

Vertical DI filter

Fast Flush feature - A mechanism connected to the system to allow flushing of the membrane to prolong its life.

DI Bypass - A valve which allows you to bypass the DI stage. Useful when installing and flushing new filters. Useful for extending the life of the DI cartridge.

RO Only - Water that's Used for drinking, cooking, etc... (DI is said to be unhealthy to consume)

Color changing DI cartridge - shows when the di cartridge needs to be replaced

Free setup kit of your choice: washing machine, sink faucet, in line, etc...

TDS tester ($40 value)

Automatic shut off valve (very usefull if you ever impliment it into an ATO system)

while i agree that the vertical filter and tds meter are great.
i got my kent steup for 120 because the lfs bought it and changed his mind because he wanted a bigger one so he sold it to me below his cost of 180 for 120.00 because one of the jaco fittings was missing and then he ordered me the jaco fitting free of charge....so im happy for now

Looks real promising, if this truly is the better one ( I just read most of their site) then I'll probably consider it. Thanks alot for all the information.
