Save the Date!

The Michigan Coral Expo & Swap (aka Lansing Swap) will be on February 21, 2016.

MCES is the largest reef event in Michigan...now in its 10th year! The event is hosted by two clubs...The Mid-Michigan Marine Club and Grand Rapids Marine Aquarium Society. Both clubs are busy making preparations and working on speakers and raffle to make it even better. Last year, MCES brought together over 800 hobbyists from around the state and upper midwest with 50 vendors from across the country. If you are a reef keeper in the midwest, you do not want to miss this event!

Date: February 21, 2016
Where: Causeway Bay Hotel and Convention Center (formerly Best Western)
6820 South Cedar Street
Lansing, MI 48911

Admission is $10 per person (kids under 16 are free)

The itinerary for the 2016 Michigan Coral Expo & Swap is as follows (raffle time to be announced):
10:00: Admission for morning speaker session
10:30-11:30: Morning Speaker Session
11:30-12:00: early exhibition hall admission for morning speaker attendees
12:00: doors open to exhibition hall for general admission
4:30: end

Can't wait for this Swap.

This is the Biggest and Best Show in Michigan

I recommend going to all the Frag Swaps but if you can only attend one this is the Swap you want to be at!

- Over 50 Dealers from around the Country including Cherry Corals and Jason Fox
- Over 800 Reefers come to Buy Coral and Meet with Friends.
- Huge Raffle (Corals, Tanks, LED Lights, Frag Saws, etc.)
- Multiple Guest Speakers (Like MACNA).

Make sure to tell all your friends about it.

I hope to see you there.

If you have not been to a Coral Frag Swap I Highly Recommend that you go.

Check out this Video from a previous swap to get an idea of all the fun that you will have.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nanVWZhUuzw

Dealers from around the country come to sell coral (much of which are the amazing corals that you see online not the bland common stuff that you see at your LFS - Local Fish Store).

It is also a great way to meet old friends and make new friends that are in the hobby.

You will find the hottest Zoanthids, Acros, Acans, Chalices, etc. all at great prices!

Do you ship?

I Do Not Ship Currently but Will in the Future (I just don't know when? Right Now I am very Focused on Traveling to Frag Swaps).

When I do start shipping I will let you know.

Have you ever been to the Lansing Frag Swap before?

I know you live Very Very Far Away but if you made the Trip you would Really Enjoy it I Promise.

Lansing is one of the Biggest Frag Swaps in the Country and by far the Biggest in Michigan.

It is at a Hotel so you could Drive Down the Night before, Check In, Get a Good Nights Sleep.

Then Head Home Right After the Swap with Lots of Goodies for your Tank :)

It would Definetly Be Worth the Trip especially if you have never been to the Lansing Show Before.

It is Too Much Fun (I Simply Cannot Emphasize that Enough)!

As many of you who have attended MCES in the past know, we usually have a guest speaker in the morning before the swap. The speaker session starts at 10:30 am. Space is limited to approximately 100 people and is first come first serve. The speaker session and is no additional cost with paid MCES admission.

The guest speaker for this MCES 2016 is Austin Lefevre. Austin installs and maintains upscale aquariums and works closely with a local aquaculture facility propagating corals. Austin has been in the aquarium industry since 2003, working with marine fish and invertebrates, along with freshwater fish, plants and invertebrates. He's been an avid SCUBA diver since the age of 12 and consistently seeks new aquatic adventures.

Austin's talk is entitled "Ditching the Dump and Hope Approach". He'll be discussing sourcing fish, quarantine and conditioning practices, and social acclimation.

Just to clarify, the speaker session is included with the $10 MCES admission for the first 100 people (till the room is full...or 10:30am whichever comes first). After 10:30 we will not allow others to enter the speaker room so that it doesn't distract Austin or the other guests from enjoying the presentation.

MCES is has a legendary reputation for its raffle and this year will not disappoint. The raffle drawing will be at 3:30.

Note that you MUST be present to win as prizes will NOT be mailed or delivered.

Raffle tickets are sold in bundles 10 for $10 or $20 for 25.

As usual, we don't want to leave you in total suspense, so I'll post a few of the items that will be in the raffle over the next few days... first up....

From one of our biggest supporters Inland Hobby, we have one of these in the raffle:

INLAND HOBBY DFS-100 REEFKEEPER SAW (http://www.inlandhobby.com/ReefKeeper_Fragging_Saw_p/91060.htm)

As seen in Reef Hobbyist Magazine (http://www.reefhobbyistmagazine.com/archives/vol_3/issue11/pages/10.htm)! Coral fragging has just gotten easier with the ReefKeeper saw. It is made to meet the specific needs of Reef Aquarists:

- Reduced Heat Transfer Yields More Viable Frags: Heat is the enemy when cutting corals; it destroys tissue and seriously affects viability, especially with sensitive species like chalice corals. The DFS-100 ReefKeeper Saw employs a continuously cooled narrow diamond blade to dramatically reduce heat transfer to the delicate tissue when cutting. Less heat means more viable frags can become healthy colonies to swap or sell.

- Clearance to Handle Larger Specimens: Saw through materials as tall as 3 1/2" - something you can't do with cut-ff wheels, tile saws, or any other band saw. So go ahead, tackle that Tubastrea or Favites or any large specimen with confidence.

- Narrow Cutting Path: Rotary tools and tile saws plow a wide swath through your valuable stock. The narrow diamond blade of the DFS-100 ReefKeeper Saw is removing the least possible amount of material as it cuts, resulting in less waste - up to three times less!

As a reminder, our guest speaker this year is Austin Lefever.

Austin Lefevre has been in the marine aquarium industry since 2002. He started at a local fish store in Ann Arbor, then moved onto a business propagating coral and breeding fish for two years back in 2006. He currently runs a company that installs and maintains upscale aquariums and works closely with a local aquaculture facility.

After 10:30am, we will not allow others to enter the speaker room so that it doesn't distract other guests from enjoying the presentation.
