I've found this guy locally that is offering 20lbs or free LR. Here's what the article says:

20 lbs live rock free to local saltwater aquarium user.

these rocks do have several glass anemonies on them, so the person who would be best positioned to use them will have a racoon butterfly or other fish which will feed on them and eliminate them.

Contact: grant

Location: Pelham, AL

My only immediate hesitation is the "glass anemonies". Should I be worried about these?

Also, what other precaultions should I take on this?

Thanks!

I would'nt, just use a kalk paste or some aptaisia control and make sure you get all of them.

K, so if i go ahead and get these, how long will they last in sw in like a rubbermaid container or somethin until I get my tank up and running?

Also, here's something else that you all may be interrested in. If I'd have room I'd probably go ahead and get this (assuming a few things are existant equipment wise)... overflow,etc...

if u add a heater and some water flow the live rock will last quite awhile, i've done it in a 32 gallon trash can for 2 weeks while setting up a tank

Red leg hermits won't eat apatasia, but some peppermint shrimp have been known too. I had three peppermint shrimp and they completely wiped out my couple apatasia I had.

peppermints would be fine although with any livestock i would atleast shove some lighting of anykind into the situation.

I kept rock for over a month in rubbermaids with a little nano tank light and a powerhead in each tube. Wasn't ideal...but it kept the rock alive!

I have kept LR in a rubbermaid tub with just a powerhead, hob filter, and a strip light for 6 months. Talk about mega pods!!! I fed DT's once a week. I sold some of that LR @ 10.00. The rest I used in my seahorse tanks.

If you don't feed the holding bin, the peppermints should erradicate them. I've got a tank full of them that I never feed, just brewing in the backroom. It's one of those "gotta take care of that one day" type of deals.

FYI, those glass anemones are spelled aiptasia. Just a minor thing, but the more of us that spell it right, the more consistent the information to newbies. :)
