I have a 96w power compact quad lamp that I was thinking about putting over a 10g tank. Since the tank is only 10" from the top of the sandbed to the top of the tank, would it be enough light for sps corals or an anemone? I know halides are best, but I thought a 250w MH (the only spare MH I have laying around)was a little bit of an over kill on a 10g tank :)

With the 96w pc quad, that's still over 9 watts per gallon. The halide would be 25 watts per gallon, and I just can't see that working without cooking everything. I know next to nothing about sps, but I want to try.

Thank you,
Angie

I've got a 96W powerquad over the 10G in my office. I only have a couple zoos and a candy cane in there now. It's sort of a holding tank while my 40B is cycling. At home I have a 10G with a 70W halide over it and I've got SPS in there. They seem to be doing fine. You could always run the 96W bulb for a while and if things don't seem to be doing good, upgrade down the road. I had a 250W halide over a 26G bow and it was probably overkill, but looked cool. :)

Angie, Just be sure you run a really good reflector with the PC lighting to get the most out of it that you can and that will help.... Though like Eric my 70w HQI over a 10g works fantastic, and a 250w halide over my 25 tall really keeps critters happy.

Thank you. Maybe I won't do sps in my nano. They are slow growers anyways, so it won't look too much different when the contest is over then it will in the beginning. On to plan B
