I have a 90 reef aquarium
I have what i think is a red/maroon clove polyp.
It has taken over all my rock my overflow and my whole tank.
It has killed all my zoas and acans the only thing that fights it off is GSP
I have tried 2 times to tear down buy new rock and it still returns
what can i do?

drnightowl2010

That's a hard one ... because it is a mat . It only takes missing a little spot and it will come right back. ... fast grower and aggressive like I said

Almost start over .... or I think if u get a fish that eats coral it will eat it up ... but I don't know if it would take completely care of it .....

I have alot of coral so I would have to take all rock out and let it die and replace the substrate and clean all of the tank ... would be like stating over .... ask others about it maybe they will have better answers then mine ....

no that is the solution i came up with as well
buy new tank and new rock and new substrate not bring anything over from this tank except maybe the fish

Be about it sorry to say ..... I myself was not told by the local fish store that neon green star polyps were aggressive like yours and they sold them to me knowing I was new to the hobby they also sold me pulsating zenas .. also aggressive .. that was awile back .. so as I watch it grow I seen how it was doing it .. so I removed it fast .... now I stay away from anything that I can't control. ..

If that was the only thing on the rocks, I would take them out and manually get the stuff off. Depending on what's in your tank, you could do it one or two rocks at a time over several weeks to minimize the disruption to the system.
As far as removal from the rock, I'd bet a propane torch and wire brush, followed up with a freshwater rinse might do a decent job.

Those are Caribbean star polyps sometimes you can get royal damsels to eat them but a i got ride of mine by starving them. I ran so much carbon replacing it every week which i believe took so many nitrients out of the water they starved to death. There are officially no more in my system. However i lost many other zoas and cloves and star polyps as well. So if you dont want that to happen you can control them by sucks them out and using aptasia x to keep them at bay.
