I am in the process of building a water return manifold out of PVC pipe, and was wondering what the procedure is for putting it in the tank. Do I just let the glue dry, let it sit for a few days,flush it with water? I would hate to build this then turn it on and watch everything instantly die. I guess what I'm looking for is how toxic is PVC glue.

I WOULD USE THE PVC GLUE THAT WE USE ON OUR DRINKING WATER PIPES IF ITS SAFE ANUFF FOR US THEN ITS GOOD ANUFF THE FISH JUST MY 2 CENTS

Once the cement and primer have cured competely (generally within an hour depending on the type/brand) it becomes inert and safe. If you look around hard enough you can find clear PVC primer, avoids the taletale bright purple that always seems to show up in my projects.

May be obvious to most but, a little extra care in cleaning and priming the pipes and fittings, and a few test fits before cementing can go a long way in avoidng problems later... make sure all fittings/pipes are seated firmly!

Give it an hour then it is good to go basically. Iknow what you mean about the purple primer it is thinner than water and gets everywhere.

One of the only nice things about the purple stuff is that you can see if you have even coverage. I used to have some really nice blue stuff and I remember that it was nice being able to see where the glue was...
