Hey gang,
Been quite a while. I had a 75 that I was setting up, I had a private transaction for some equipment that went very wrong (sold non-working brand name LEDs) and cost me about 1/4 of the tank budget. I was then told on short notice that the property I was leasing was being sold and in Michigan, this is one of the conditions under which your lease can be terminated. I moved into an apartment that had no room for 2 people, 2 cats and a 4 foot aquarium. Soon after, I got a new house, and, after adjusting to my new house budget, my fiancee and I decided it was time for a reef.

Here's the stuff you guys are interested in:
I will be setting up a 110 gallon 48x18.5x30 mixed reef in our study. The tank is a Marineland with black silicone and 1/4" glass (she's a beast to haul). First project will be re-painting the stand. I picked up the tank used and the stand is pretty beat up, its the classic black look. After that I will be wiring a 20A receptacle in the study to prepare for the electrical load.

This will be slow and steady as funds come in for equipment. My Goal is to be cycling by January! I will not give up this time!

Small update, decided to spend the money for a premium product. Ordered a 16 inch Synergy Reef Shadow overflow. Will be drilling and plumbing the tank Friday this week as well as setting up electrical. I double checked with Marineland that my tank does not have tempered panels. Pictures and/or video to come later this week!

Got the tank drilled and installed the overflow, looks very sharp! Will finishing plumbing out the overflow tonight or tomorrow. Will be using the bean animal style overflow with a gate valve.

Small update. My brother stayed with me over Thanksgiving and we got the tank and stand in place. Installed a 20amp GFCI circuit and wall plug and will be purchasing a skimmer and return pump hopefully before New Years (we’ll see what “Santa” brings!)

Hey everyone, sorry for the long delay without an update. Been dealing with some other pets health issues and then the holidays hit. Just wanted to give an update. I have been researching the Triton method of reef keeping and will be going that route. Right off its going to raise the build cost with the specific sump I'm looking at (TS-34 by SynergyReef), which is $100 cheaper than the Filter Sock style I was looking at. Due to the stand size on this tank, there's no room for the 40 breeder style sump I'd like to make custom, so, I'm going to trust one of the best in the biz. The $100 lower sump cost, however will be quickly eaten up by the $50-$60 in Triton dosing elements to start the system, the $50 IEP test to initiate and the $150 needed to set up dosing. I am still debating on lighting and have sent some requests to manufacturers. I am looking to go all LED and may supplement them later with the Aquatic Life t5 hybrid or DIY my own hybrid T5. If anyone has some honest opinions on LEDs over a 30 inch deep tank, I'd love to hear an argument for the Hydra 26 vs Hydra 52 in particular. However, I'm still open to any "premium" brand (Ecotech, Kessil, Giesmann..etc.)

Hey gang! Long time no post. My life has been exceedingly busy. I got married and transferred to a new job. Luckily, the aquarium made the journey with me and I have been slowly working on it! Today, during breaks from Football (Go Blue!) my father in law and I were able to build the frame and skin out the stand. I am also excited to report that my Synergy reef system Triton 34 sump arrived last week and it is a beaut.

At the beginning of August, I did finalize my lighting choice. I settled on the AP700 from Kessil along with the Hybrid T5 system from Aquatic life. I’ll have some pics of the sump later but here is the stand. Will be putting on doors and staining later this week and next week.

Thanks to Rick and the Synergy Reef team for building me a world class sump. Here are a few pics of my new Sump under the AP700, I will probably end up with the Kessil H160 as my Fuge light, without further ado, enjoy!
