I want to add some more sand to my tank but i am concerned with the sand i will be putting in...My question is this is the quickcrete play sand compareable to the southdown arganite sand?

You will get a diatom bloom due to the silica in the sand but other than that I do not see a problem.

alright just a recap no more southdown sand will be produced but it might be relabeled by another company that actually supplied the sand to southdown...but another conumdrium...I have high desert sand from homedepot will that be a good alturnative to southdown sand?

take a little pile of sand and add a few drops of vinegar to it, if it fizzes it's generally good to go.... meaning some sort of aragonite based sand. If it's slicate based it won't fizz.

You could use it but expect a heavy diatom bloom untill all silicates are gone.
