he is a hickhicker these are the best pics out of 30 of them
is he reef safe ???

Well it looks like an emerald crab to me.

NO NO NO that is not an emerald crab. that is a gorilla crab. they are not reef safe. they are nastly little buggars that will get anything they can get their nasty little claws in. put him in the sump.

Are the tips of the claws dark? From the pic, it does look like a gorilla crab. Like Greg said, banishment to the sump is in order.

Is he Hairy? Gorilla crabs are hairy. We had like 6 of em we are down to one but that lil sucka is illusive! LFS's won't take em either.... we tried! LOL
Look in Nev's files maybe he's got a pic of one?

I went to Tampa Bay Saltwater and found a pic of the gorilla crabs in our tank. Is this what yours looks like too?

thanks guys ... hes a gorila crab... only this on is young smaller than a dime looks mor like the pic (auntkaren).....posted he is in sump and the rock i found him in aint in the refuge it had way too many hiding spots in it for him
do thay some times hid in the sand if thay cant find i place to hide???

the black tip on the claws is the easiest way for me to tell and the claws are bigger around then emeralds

Glad you found out what you had. We still have at least one but I think my hubby enjoys the "hunt" as much as he does getting those critters! The last one he killed he didn't even get out of the tank because the serpent star grabbed it off the spear and ate it whole......ouch!
