Weight vs. Floor

What is the biggest water volume somebody has on a wood floor, without reinforcing under the house? Tank and sump and over how big of an area?

I have a 55 with not much concern. I havnt got my 10 gal done and the reef bug has bit. I already want a bigger one. I just dont know how much the floor will hold.

I just realized this may not be in the right spot. Mods please move if nessesary.

I think your 55 would be fine!! I don't PLAN to reinforce for my 125 but I will have it next to what I know is a load bearing wall.

when your not sure inforce your floor. after all it would be better to have crawled around under your house for nothing then to come home one day and find your reef on the ground

Well i have a 55 going already. My house is two story so wouldnt every wall downstairs be a load bearing wall? I would think that it SHOULD be, but that doesnt mean that it is.

Also that is good advice, but toward the front of my house the access is limited and tight. My house is around 100 years old and has been remodeled and added onto over the years. When it started it was under 1000sq ft and now is about 2000sq ft. Its big enough for the wife and i.

Jojo you dont currently have the 125 running? Lmk when you get it going. If you dont need reinforcment i may go that route. My friend owns a lfs and once a year he can get 125 gallon for around $120. And he can help do the floor if nesseary. NOW....to convince my better half. :)

reinforce the floor and save the heartache. When we get our new home that is the first thing i am doing just to be safe.

Place larger tanks perpendicular to the floor joists so the tank sits across more of them. Next to load bearing walls is also a good idea. Google it there is lots of info on the net!

REEEEINFORCE!!! that is all I have to say. I know I sleep ALOT better at night knowing my 400 gallon sits on top of a reinforced floor. I dont know what in the heck I would do if that sucker came crashing down.

waking up to your 400 gallon baby ALL over your house would be a sad thing.

My 55 is on a load bearing wall,and running perp will the floor joists.

More good news i talked to the wife at lunch, and as long as she can have "a dori" i can have a 125 gallon. Can I get a woot woot!
