Anemone not looking so hot

I am not sure what type of anemone i have but he is a short tenticle and almost looks like a all white fluffy carpet. His tenticles were very close together and only about .5" long. The problem is i recently added some salt to the tank, just a small amount and then i noticed right away that he looked like he was giving off some type of fluid and like he was melting away or something. I found him the next morning all wrapped up like a sock. I decided to move him to the other side of the tank. I took a look at him and he looked like half was decaying or like it was a bunch of slime, while his other half looked normal. I put him back in front to sit on the crushed coral but i am not sure if he is dead or not. I fed him some brime shrimp and i could notice his tenticles move but he does not look good. I did noticed that after i pulled my hand out it stunk like rotting seafood. I dont want to throw him out if he is not fully dead. How can i tell?

Sounds like he's a goner, once an anemone starts to slime over it is not a good sign. Especially with the rotting seafood smell, I'd say to take him out before it causes alot of problems.

it it smells bad like that then he is dead or dying. also it sounds like you got suckered into buying a seabae (sp?) which many of us do and then realize why not to get them.

Where did you get it? Whenever you buy livestock, it is best to find out what it is so we can help you online later.

Even better is to ask questions first before you make the purchase so that you'll have better success and the livestock will live a long time. :)

I bought it at the LFS, what is a seabae?? This morning i noticed that he dug himself into the crushed coral and spread out a little bit. The only thing is that it looks like some of his tenticles are either gone or like he is a pile of goo in some spots, while his other half looks normal. My water does not smell its just yesterday i thought it smelled like seafood on my hand when i pulled it out after moving him. I was adding salt because i did a waterchange, and evidently i didnt get the specific gravity correct. I was pretty sure it was correct in the 5G bucket but it seemed to drop 4hrs later after it was mixed up.

Should i let him sit for a while and keep an eye on him?

Any my long tenticle anemones were only $10-30, while this small tenticle one was $50

Can you post pictures of it? Maybe it is a carpet anemone, maybe it is a bubble tip anemone... can't diagnose the situation when we don't know what the creature is.

Whenever you have to add salt to your system, it is best to remove a gallon of water and replace it with a new gallon of saltwater. You might want to read this over:

Salt is caustic, and adding it directly as a powder into your tank will sting anything it touches before it can dissolve. Mixing it up in water until it is completely dissolved is the safest method.
