It would be interesting to see how everyone else is doing this so I can get ideas on what to do for my tank. I don't quite understand how the water flows through a sump and refugium and pictures and designs will clear it up for me. If I understood the concept behind a refugium that would help as well. Thanks guys!

heres what i did wit an old tank. just used acrylic and glued it in place.

The drawing has changed slightly since i set up the sump, my skimmer is no longer inside the sump, its installed remotely drawing water in from the sump side and discharging remotely into the fuge side will all flow heading to the middle, also i never got around to installing the scwd and probably wont since i have a closed loop that i'll be putting sea swirls on as soon as i can.

Here's a shot of our old sump/refuge setup that we had running down in the basement under the 55g before we took it down. (actually it's still down there collecting dust, gonna cut it up for other projects now). Really simple, and cost nothing more than some time and a bunch of scrap acrylic.

The 180g now has a 40 gal rubbernmaid tube for a sump and a 20g tank for a refuge, connected them together via an old weir box and a powerhead for now. I'll try to get some pics tonight.

here are 2 pics one of onld sump under my 75 and the new design its a 20 Long AGA

pic...1-2 return pump has a T and fills the refug on left side and then spills over plexi glass back into sump, check pics to see the rest


pic...3-4 new design still same 20 Gal long with refug in seperate 10gal tank with hole drilled in top that acts as overflow back to sump and here is the spray bar at the top of the refug sorry no front pics dont have 1

Here's what I came up with...... I found 2 used 20L at the LFS predrilled for $15. Looks like the water is still dirty so imagine what it looked like before the skimmer.
