I have a new 230 gal. tank with a built in center overflow. It has 2-2" drains and 2-1" returns. My question is if I plumb one of the drains and returns to the sump and use the other drain and return as a closed loop would this work? What if the sump pump quit working would the closed loop pump flood the sump? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Andy

If you allow for the volume that the closed loop holds in your "max fill" line in your sump, you should be fine. Ideally, your closed loop is a vacume, so the overflow level of your drains should still be your barometer as to how much overflow would occur in the case of an outage.

Makes sense

Your closed loop shouldn't flood the sump but if your closed loop return drain isn't a couple of inches lower than the return drain you might run the closed loop dry.
