View Full Version : Disaster & Prevention Eye Pop?

Hey Folks,
One of my Blue Chromis seems to have a case of Eye Pop. I am not sure of the cause. In reading there are several possible causes but many seem specific to fresh water. My water Parms are good and I did a water change ahead a schedule for good measure. I pride myself in keeping my water tip top. There is obviously some gas build up for some reason pushing out on her eye. Perhaps a reaction to an impact?
Does anybody have any insight to treatments or experience as to what to expect?
Here are a couple of Photos. Sorry about the quality. I could use some good Aquarium Photography advise.
Thanks
I know this sounds cruel and I am not trying to be cruel but......Can you catch him? If so Do it and have him meet the procelin god. With the need for him to go in a QT the maricin 2 to cure is he really worth it? They are 4 for 10.00 here Maricin 2 about 8 bucks. Sorry for the suggestion but that is what I would do.

No harm done, although I would rather treat than flush.
So what you are saying GRUE is that I should expect this to spread to the other fish?
I first noticed this late last week and yesterday it was at it's worst. The fish seems to have no ill effects as it swims around as if nothing was wrong.
When the light came on this AM some of the swelling had subsided and it is still down now, into the evening so I am hoping that it will continue to improve.
GRUE- You can get Blue Reef Chromis for $2.50? I need that connection, please share. I can hardly fine them online and when my LFS has them, which is rare, they often refuse to eat.

I dont think it would spread, I had a bangai that did it and I kept up on the parameters and it fixed its self.

oohh and by the way I see your jaw fish in the first pic!!!
No, not saying it will spread. But you wouldnt want to treat your main tank with meds would you? Most people would put in a qt to treat (easier to treat a 10). We have a store here called Pet Club. It is a werehouse type store like costco. They put them up on sale every month.

The eye looks bad again today. I guess I will wait it out. Trying to get her out would be a major pain and probably result in more causalities.
I googled your Pet Club. There are only if few and all in CA. Bummer.
Thanks for sharing.

I'm really sorry to see you're having a rough time. I wouldn't count your girl out just yet... baby her, and keep on keeping your tank in tip-top shape. You might just be in for a happy surprise. ;)

(Just a thought... maybe keep an eye on fish behavior at "abnormal" times... maybe there's something going on to cause her stress that you're not seeing regularly?)
