The xenia in my tank have started growing like crazy. They are taking over a 60-70 lb. rock and wiping out everything in their path. I have tried putting small rocks around them and a few grow on them which I trade at the LFS but most seem to grow around the small rocks and keep spreading. Does anyone know how to slow them down without removing the whole rock and killing them all?

Fragg them back!
I have some watermellon zoo's that grow like weeds.
I simply decide how much I want to keep and cut away the rest. (Zoo's for sale =)

It seems if I cut them off they just grow back from the base left on the rock

I have a similar problem with my Blue Shrooms... Wish I never put them in. Plenty to go around.
Grue- Could you get those Zoos to FL if you still have them?

My advice would be find some guys who want it, either sell at supper low price or give away for free (low price =$2-3, it don't cost you much and you make a profit to put toward your tank) then take the smaller rock that you cut it off of kill the base then put it back in. Easy right?

I had "some" good results by cutting it like I was going to frag it and then killing the base with boiling water in a syringe, but be warned to watch the stalks nearby, as I had a few of those die off as well and start rotting in the tank. So I assume no responsibility for you doing this, I only did it twice and there is a good chance I just got dang on luck with my results.

the easiest method so far seems to be putting small pieces of rock clam shells, dead coral etc. then letting the xenia grow on them then take them to the LFS for credit. It probably isn't the fastest way but pretty simple
