I plan on adding a 60g frag tank above the sump soon to get rid of the clutter in the display with all the frags and whatnot.
Stay tuned because I am revamping the my Display in the coming weeks. I kind of want to tear down my 120 and get a new Starfire front 120 with built in corner overflow and return. I'm sick of the Utube overflow box and the scratches on my current display, and the over the top PVC returns. Trying to clean up the look and will prob paint the back of the new 120 black.
I want to do the whole patch reef look this time around with 1 large patch and one smaller patch. Kind of the trend right now anyway LOL.
Thanks for looking
Shawn
looks like someone really likes the chalice corals!!!
and you have made great use of my old sump :) That is the way it should have been used!!! If I would have had more room behind the tank :(
Nice skimmer too BTW

Are those "Baby Breath" favia nuggets there a few pics up?
Wanna sell one?
Awesome stuff by the way! Love that Rainbow fungia.
If your sick of the clutter, I'd be happy to take some stuff off your hands!

Yes Chalices are my friend
Thanks Mike the sump worked out perfect, I couldn't be happier with it.
Rob, those are "Babys Breath's better looking older brother" LOL (or something like that?) from Trop/Cherry....well I got them from Trop.
I would sell you the smaller one, but it belongs to a friend of mine. My buddy has a habit of buying corals and putting them in my tank....it may sound awesome, but with all the money I've invested in equipment and whatnot, and watching someone else's coral grow for months and months, you get attached to pieces and end up feeling like someone stole something out of my tank LOL.

Holy Moley, that tank will have corals busting out of the seams in another year or two.
Just charge your friend a percentage, when he comes to get his stuff you get to frag a specific percentage off of it as a sitting fee.

excuse my ignorance... I have never really been into chalice corals (please dont hate me) with them being so close to one another do you expierence alleopathy?? or they pretty passive in that way... either way you have some beautiful pieces and the fungia is AMAZING!!

Sweet setup, what kind of growth rates do you get? eye's per month or 3?

IME they don't bother each other, whether or not they actually slow the growth of one another I'm not really sure.
Growth depends on finding the best placement within the tank, and also the type. I have some chalices that haven't grown at all, and some that spit out a couple eyes a month. Most of the non growers are wild colonies that I've picked up over the years. Obviously they all start out wild, but most of the original LE's with "lineage" are all good growers. Most of them dating back a couple to a few years ago. Nowadays with the huge amount of chalice corals coming in, all the Vendors are getting wild colonies and slapping LE in front of them because of trends and whatnot before the colony/frags are proven to grow and sustain themselves within our aquariums. This is a largely debated topic on many forums.....to each his own though. If someone wants to slap LE on a coral its fine by me, but I generally like to wait and see how the colors morph, and if they will actually grow

Looks awsome man! So many pics litter the net of one or two eyed chalices. It is nice to see someone actually grow them! :) That rainbow plate is a stunner as well! Nice collection. :)

Looks great bro, lotsa goodies in there! :D
LMK if you need help with the transition when it happens (if I'm in town ;)) - will be a good excuse for me to get my butt over there and I could use some "reef work"... my lil Mini is too easy, LOL!

Thanks Austin and I will give you a shout when I transition for sure.
I called into Miracles to get a quote on a Custom, rimless, 4' - 120g, 2 panel starfire, black silicone, Corner Overflow.....I can't think of anything else I should ask them?

Maybe the cost for the same thing, but a 180 gallon, 48"L x 36"W x 24"H? :D
I also absolutely love external overflows (based on the look of the inside of the tank), but of course that takes up a bit more room.

Updated pics.....
Over the weekend I finally finished a project I've been waiting to do.
The sump overhaul was swapping out my 30g sump to Mikes old but still awesome 110g Custom acrylic sump. That was about a month ago.
This past weekend I had the itch to finally do the Frag tank. Heres the pics as of right now, its almost full but I have it capped because I still need to plumb it to the sump.

Nice, are you adding a sand bed to the frag tank?
Viva'sReef
10-19-2009, 10:11 PM
I'm still not sure. For now its a No. Later on I might decide to add one. I did end up painting the bottom and back of the old "The Fish Guy" 60g tanks black

I like it, if it where me, I'd cover the bottom with rubble and plant easy growers down there if you have any zoa's and such, place them in the middle and as they grow cut and pull out the rubble.

Im not sure exactly what it is, but its large, and traps detritous and food like MAD CRAZY. I hate it. Its one thing I look at and cringe everytime I think why, why did I put this crap in there.
haha can you tell I don't like it? Its coming out eventually

Thanks everyone.
Marv, Anytime bud. I know I've been procrastinating stopping over your place to check out your tank, and help ya out with that RKE. I am just now starting to utilize my RKE more and more. Took me all last night, but I finally got the NET module hooked up to where I can access it from outside my Home network. It's still not right though, I think I need to do the Beta firmware update, and web browser update for it to work right.
How's the little one? Ours should be soon, due date is the 25th. Crazy if it happens on that day because that is my birthday, and my Wifes birthday(I'm 2 hours older.) ;) Thats why you see all these upgrades recently....Its tank upgrade crunch time before baby comes hahaa
