I re-aquascaped (finally)
Added a psuedo chromis and occy. clown.
Replaced the cpr bac-pac skimmer w/ an aqua-c remora HOB skimmer.

Started cooking 100 lbs+ of live rock in the basment.

I have a serious bryopsis problem...which is effecting corals now. Spending too much time on the site and not enough time with tank!

Hope someone has something good happening instead of the first two replies to your topic...

My Kedds Reds are aaaaaaaaaalive!!!! Yup, after over a week of being closed. They lookin sooooo purdy! My Green Implosions are going crazy, walking all over the place, new polyps galore! I have another zoa (not yet identified) that has also walked off it's plug onto the LR. I caught my Tangaroa goby grabbing an amphipod fer dinner and lil Miz PJ Cardinal, well just says she aint starving.
So all is wonderfully well with my tank. I also have bryopsis but started dosing with Magnesium, see how that goes.

I finally put up my 60g frag tank over the weekend, its about 3/4 full of water and should be full by tonight. I plan to finish plumbing the drain to the sump, and finishing the return tonight as well(hopefully). Then once things settle for a few days, I plan to move my chalice collection and all smaller frags to the frag tank to clear up some space it the DT.

This weekend I plan on taking 80% of the live rock in my DT and start the "cooking" process. Its over-run with aptasia, and some type of culerpa sp? thats pretty invasive and grows way too fast for me. Not even sure how it got in there.

I have not done anything new with my 90gal display lately. Still procratinating on building my new stand so I can put my new sump/refugium under it. I can not decide if I should do a 2 x 4 construction and then skirt it out or to use 3/4inch hard wood plywood. I did however fix the spiderweb of RO lines running in my basement, crame more frags in my frag tank to the point of it being full, and add a royal gamma to it. My frag tank is kinda a nano/frag tank.

Hey Shawn, if you have never added a frag tank to an exsisting system I thought I would point out that you probably will get an algae bloom. I know it doesn't make sense from a science point of view afterall you are just adding volume to an already cycled system but I have seen it happen several times. You shouldn't notice any problems in your display just in the frag tank itself. I would take your time moving your corals in there until you are sure everything has shaken out.

As far as my tank? I have a few new growth tips but other than that I am just watching it grow out.:) I have made no significant changes in quite a while.

I added a teeny tiny red scooter blenny, a pom pom crab and a green clown goby to my 29 biocube! thanks Shelly/Seashells! Trying to keep it simple. Seahorses, a pipe fish, various crabs, a watchman goby and pistol shrimp. Its fun to see everyone hard at work!

Aside from making room for my new corals by selling some frags to my LFS, making 45.00$ in credit, and having the new corals come in nasty and getting no better, not sure what to do with them. My tank is doing great! At least my Kenya Tree thinks so, an she's my indicator. Ordered a couple of Star snails for those tighter spots. Really want to get another goby or blenny. But I'm already maxed with the PJ Cardinal and Tangaroa goby. The PJ I got to clean up the amphipod population explosion. I would love to have a fish that's active, and visible. Not distructive and get's along with others. Any ideas out there?
What the heck is it with always wanting more in this hobby? It's frustrating as all heck! I want a bigger tank, but can't afford a bigger tank and the little tank is reminding me of it. :duh::blackeye:

The good-

Did a water change
Got a new zoa frag

The bad-

Powerhead fell, and blew all my sps frags all over the place
dropped a t5ho light into the tank, ruining the fixture
My HOB aqua c remora skimmer isnt bubbling like it should....

The bad bad algae~The Favia's doing good so far~new frag of Tubbs Blue totally melted away again same seller~watermellon zoa's are finally opening up~still haven't caught the bad crab, but I see it often~my porcelain crab molted first time since I've had her~Yellow nose prawn goby and pistol shrimp are doing wonderful~bought a couple of black turbo snails and a Trochus Snail who have totally cleaned the back wall of my tank so it's looking new~I got a new piece of LR from an established tank at the LFS, has some nice coraline, some clear long worm looking thingys, a few feather duster looking thingys and what looks like a little carpet of tiny tiny polyps~I got the rock to glue some of my zoa's to it. I think that's about it for today!

That Remora skimmer is great once you get it dailed in..I have the same one and it took me forever to get it dailed in but finally got it..now it pulls about 1/4 cup of skim mate out every day..Im running mine on the dry side..I have found it works better that way.

I finally started on increasing the volume on my frag tank. I built a platform to hold a 50gal stock tank. I am going to get a 100 gal stock tank and put it under the 50gal. I am going to take the barrel out from under my current 24x24x12 frag tank. Its going to be a complete circle. Frag tank going to drain to the 100gal, pumped up to the 50gal, and the 50gal drain to current frag tank. I am thinking about once all this is set up about taking my large GBTA and my black and white saddleback clowns and putting them in the current frag tank. They will be to breeding age soon. I also got the basic frame built for my 90gal. I am building a new stand because it needed to be bigger to house the refugium me and TMO1 built. Joefish helped with the stand construction. I hope I get a new camera for Christmas so I can post some pics of these projects. I should be getting lights for the 50gal stock tank in January.

Lets see......Ive been running the new skimmer in my old frag tank for 3 days now. I used water from both tanks to stretch her out. This thing has the fattest thickest nog Ive seen so far. Can't wait to get it online!!!

Converting fug over to a cryptic zone and changing out a few baffels. May go to the bac driven side?!?
Also updating RKL and getting SL2 online....basically planning on doing a complete over haul to the entire underside of the tank! My biggest undertaking yet with the tank set up.

Added two McCoskers Wrasse four days ago. Fish dynamics are all over the board now.

I think I am going on 11 days now with out a purchase of coral or anything for the tank!!

The Bad - went out on saturday night tank was fine and came home sunday afternoon and some of my corals looked bad. I put my hand in my tank and the water was HOT. I looked at the temp it was 90 degrees. I unplugged the heater grabbed some bags of ice I had ready in case this ever happened and threw them in the tank. Put a fan across the top of my tank. Shut off my halides and waited and watched. I got my temp back down by that night and added 2 back-up heaters I had to get me through the night. Went to the LFS in the morning and spent $60 on a new heater.

The Good - I caught it in time and everything is looking great again today!

LOL the Idaho Grape came via me! Enjoy it!

It's been a busy week! My updates:

Installed a Profilux Plus II controller. It's on my LAN and doing just dandy! It was such a deal... could not pass it up. Sold the RK2, which worked superbly, but....

Fragging down my Hollywood stunner a lot. It just was out of space. Even after a bunch of frags, I haven't made much of a dent in it.

Sold a few favia as more stuff is getting crowded out in the front part of the tank. Caps are growing large and taking space.

I got one of these strange green bristleworms out of a colony/ rock i recently purchased. I got half of two others... plan to try and coax the rest out tonight.

The acro on the frag rack are growing well. Very excited! I hope to add a Red Planet and maybe some other prizes after heading to the MMMC this weekend. Keeping my eyes out for any cool encrusting montis as well.

What kind of lights did you buy?????? I live in Ypsilanti also. Might be able to help.

some BS retro kit from this guy on MR. The one ballast was open and had to screw it down to close it. It works sometimes, and sometimes it doesn't. You have to turn it on and off a few times and wiggle the ballast to get it to work, now it's not even working. The other one seems ok, and the vho's are so so, but I got ripped off on the dam thing. You live and you learn, but this was an expensive lesson. I believe it's a very old hamilton 175w halide. the plug that goes into the ballast looks like normal wall plug but the 2 pins are sideways and not straight up and down.

thanks mike, actually I just bought a dual 175W cooltouch ballast from someone on MR, and just paid him before I saw this. Hopefully this new one will work better. Looks 1000 times better from teh pictures. Hopefully I will have it soon. Went to fish docs and they gave me a new capacitor in case thats it, but I'm afraid to mess with this POS. I'm hopeing the seller will work out some kind of settlement for the POS lights he sold me. At least there is the feedback option over there right? I may have to post pictures of this janky thing though. The ground wire was balled up inside the ballast, the switch is loose and has electrical tape holding it in place, the capacitor is wrapped in electrical tape, the socket housing has no top and has exposed wires, the wire guard doesn't fit and is just surrounded by old electrical tape that looked like it held it in place at one point. The LFS basically said it looks like a fire hazard and to have a certified electrician replace the capacitor and transformer, and rewire the whole thing. I'm not going to take my chances with this POS. Bright side is I got the other one for $100 and I can sell the other ballast and light that does work and try to recoup some of my losses. We shall see.

Hope Chayne does well! I've never had any real problem with him, though I still haven't seen that Yashia goby... lol. That'd be my fault though.

Gave those Dino's the one-two punch with 72 hours lights out. One patch left. Bought 6 more Astrea snails and 6 Blue legged hermits. Hermits were foraging as soon as they hit the sand bed :) Still waiting on my clowns I have ordered from Tal/Reef Paradise.

I got diatoms and red slime algae-the diatoms are on the sand bed only-red slime on tanks back wall and on some zoas-WTH? Ever since I got my tail spot blenny my yellow rose prawn goby and pistol shrimp won't come out of their cave-especially the prawn he used to come out all the time-I hope they don't starve-I spot feed them but the bristle worms seem to get there first :(

Hopefully it will be ok^ My friends yellow watchman wasnt seen for 4 months so it wasnt getting fed but it and his shrimp showed up after we simplified the rockwork and his hiding spot is near the front of the tank now.

Quite alot going on here actually. I took my current satelite apart yesterday and just used the guts to make a new light and mount it on my old canopy. I was getting shocks and the thing weighed a ton, making it hard to do anything in the tank.

I have layered a bunch of rock on the bottom of that tank to create a 5 in sand bed for my future jawfish pair. I have had sand bubbleing away in a 5g bucket for this and started filling in the spaces between the rock for them to dig in.

The same tank had my 3 baby bangaai in it that I am trying to pair up. I removed the bigger bully to his own tank to give the others, who were always hiding , some space to grow and hopefully pair.

Placed alot of new rock from tommy b in my main tank and cut back on feeding to help with my algae prob. Will be getting a bunch of columbellid snails in the next few days, to breed and hopefully knock out some algae. I need to hang my 70w hps light over my sump to also help with nutrients and grow chaeto.

Have also been setting the neighbors 65g tank up to spill over from her first 20g and make room for her cowfish. Not sure yet what she will do when he outgrows that one.

I suppose that is it, other than I need to change 10g of water today and hang the light. Been using my new used ro/di for the last 2 weeks but havnt seen the benefits from it yet.

First day I've been happy with how the tank looks in weeks. Been running the EcoBaks for.....2 weeks now.
Dodged a bullet with the BRS Alk doser the other day. I left it on for like half hour. Alk was 12 for 24 hours with a 10 gallon water change. Steadily dropping down to 9 today, no ill side effects witnessed at all!!! Thank goodness.
Algae still a major pain but corals are coloring back up!

Glued some corals down, and did a tiny bit of tweaking on the aqua-scape.

Did a water change.

Re-installed the Par-38 on the frag rack.

Whats new with my tank???I have been dosing MB& since the start of my tank. I started dosing vitamarin C (by brightwells) along side the biofuel, at a reduced amount, a while back. I no longer need to scrape my glass every other day! I can see clearly in the tank for a few days before i need to clean the glass!

My birds nest is still alive and doing quit well. I see (if only in my mind) a hint of pink.
Haven't lost a zoa in over a month. Kedds have actually made a come back, from 1 polyp to 6 :)

A gallon a day evaporation??? Are you kidding me???

My daughter's 50g evaps that much.... so does my tank.

New in my tank is I added one of those mini-maxi-carpets from The Trop. Kinda cool!

We added a pump/UV all-contained unit to her tank, and it has gone from an algae bloom mess to crystal clear in just a few days…. And is maintaining that clarity. Very nice!

I am ready to permenantly attach some frags to a nice big rock(or 2) and let it start filling in. Several caps and lots of monti digis and encrusting types.

My algae problem is fixed for the most part. I still need to pick it from the overflow but the rocks are 99% clear now!!! after how many months? and trial and error and new pieces of equip. and... lol

My tank (80g,40g and 30g sump/fuge all connected) evaporates 2.5-3g a day. the 80 is a cube though so lots of surface area.

I recieved my 1"SCWD from premium aquatics yesterday. They had it on sale for $50 instead of $80! I have wanted one for a long while. Now I need to change out my 900gph return for a Danner 1200gph and set that up.

I am still helping the neighbor with her tank. I bought a Turbofloter1000 body from the lfs for 20$ It was really dirty and in the used equip area. New owners cleaning up the store. It is the same model I have on my tank and I really love it. So my Ocean Runner 900 gph will probably get used on that skimmer in my friends tank.

+ getting all my parts and pieces together for my 5g hex which I am entering into the nano contest. I will have a 15g sump/frag tank attached because I REALLY nead a frag tank for overflow from my main, lol.

The LFS has ALOT of Red sea skimmer boddies, probably for about the same price. Not sure if anyone would be interested. I dont know how well that brand worrks but have heard of them of course.

My display tank was sold and picked up last Friday. Cleared a pair of (spawning) flame angels out of QT for new arrivals this weekend, but at the moment I don't have ANY coral or fish in the house! There's a cleaner shrimp in QT though ;)

I know, right!? :stupidme:

All my livestock from the display has been gone since October when someone came and bought the lot of it, but the tank itself hung out for a while ;) QT tanks were full and as mentioned just had to make room, but I haven't been without at least fish or coral for over six years now... my shrimp will have to keep me company until Sunday.

I get a minimum of a gallon a day evaporation out of my 65gal.

Melted my Lunar from the growout contest. That makes the 3 or 4th Lunar frag I've melted in the last couple years - I would really like to know what the secret is to keeping that particular polyp.
