Yeah I know another lighting question:roll:. Getting ready to start my fuge build and have a few questions regarding lighting. It will be a 29g fuge for macro, LR maybe some inverts and ? What are some recommendations of what kind and timing of lights? Same schedule as DT? I have read some run them opposite of the DT. Thanks for any info

fuge lighting is not near as vital as dt lighting... I used to run mine opposite of the display... I used a dual compact basic freshwater aquarium light that worked great... I grew cheato like CRAZY I have heard some people go to home depot and get bulbs there (cannot remember which ones)

I am sure other members will chime in with what works for them.

Considering all my left over or old lighting is 48" I will probably end up buying a new fixture of some kind. I do have a Coral life 260w PC retro kit I just removed from my DT but was thinking that was over kill. And was hoping to sell it anyway.

that is pretty the same scenerio... I had an old PC with some coralife bulbs and unit laying around from an old QT tank and put it over my fuge.

Once I'm home from work and off the iPhone I'll hit you with a link that will grow you bundles of chaeto! Or duh, just go to meleevesreef.com that's what I've used for years.

Thanks thats exactly what I was looking for. I even have a few of those clamp fixtures, very handy for taking on the job with me.

Dont waste your month on expensive lighting for your fuge.. thats just silly..
but keep in mind its a REFUGE!! might wanna re think putting critters in there like crabs and stuff.. unless you arent really gearing towards the spawning of stuff like copeopods and mysis shrimp in there..

macro algea needs NO special lighting.. just use a cheap light.. pick up a NO light strip for other the 29gal and call it good

actually Im in warren as well.. and I have on sitting in my garage I almost threw away..
if you want it.. its yours..

as for timing.. Ive seen alot of people run oposite of what the display is on.. and that seems to work well ..
I have always ran mine 24/7 you want to promot macro algea growth.. more light more growth.. I dont see the effect of running opposite unless you are running a high grade lighting set up and a refug that is stock with life

Thanks Liquid I really appreciate that but I will probably just use one of those $12 lights in my clip on fixture. I am hoping to be ready to set up my fuge in a week or so, still need a few things to get it started.
