I usually buy reef water from the fish shop but I finally broke down and got an API tap water filter and a bucket of Red Sea Coral Pro salt. I just did the water change and immediately my frogspawn coral pulled completely in and released its tenticles. Is this cool? I think this coral is going to come up stairs and kill me in my sleep! All the rest of the fish and inverts seem fine. Would this seriously be caused by the different salt? Is this normal? I dont like to be killed by corals at night.
I am a bit worried about the rest of them!
How much water did you change and what is the system volume?

Did you dump the water directly on the frogspawn?
Too heavy of flow can cause the tentacles/head to blow right off of a LPS like a frogspawn. If the force of the poured water was to great, this could be the issue.

I poured it into the back filtration sump. One side of the coral is starting to come back out! yay. I did put some PH 8.2 in there right after I filled the tank up because the water was 8.4, and the tank water was 8.3. I know some grains from that hit it, so I dont know.

Not sure if it has to do with anything, but might-
When adding water with a PH buffer, add the water very slow over a period of time. Could make some drastic/quick changes that could adversly affect your corals.
I am gonna sleep on your subject, and see what I can come up with. Other than heavy flow, stress is the only other thing that could cause they tentacles to release....

Did you use a tap water filter of an RO/DI unit. Two different things and the tap filter is generally not good enough to make the tap water reef safe. But contaminated water would generally not cause the issue you had. I would guess either flow or a large temperature difference.
