The one below it pushed around 5200 GPH.

Well 2 hours isn't enough time for "system design" lol

Mike

I would need to see the new design up close too. They look to be lower profile Korallia in design/

Mike

NOt even close. There are so many aspects to this.

The problem with one pump pushing 5200gph is where do I aim it? I am trying to get away from that problem.

Mike
11-08-2009, 10:05 PM
YOu would need to pulse it up and down.

jimsflies

Yeah, we hit on a couple aspects of system design. I think this worked out pretty well. I'm sure we'll get better...

Mike

You would need to put that pump on a controller and cycle it through until you found the sweet spot.

schminksbro
11-08-2009, 10:06 PM
Yes, but if it pulses up to 5200 gph it would still have to be very strategically aimed.

Mike
11-08-2009, 10:07 PM
It would never be good to have it bangin on a coral :) it would blow the flesh right off of it.

schminksbro
11-08-2009, 10:08 PM
But it would still peak at 5200 so I would have the aim issue.

Mike
11-08-2009, 10:08 PM
Depending on if I start working a little contingent on the side I might get a couple to trow on the profilux and see what I can do with them.

Mike
11-08-2009, 10:09 PM
In a 90 I would stick with the one that peaks at 3400 and dial it back

Mike
11-08-2009, 10:09 PM
That is the 6105 model.

Mike

I think they all come with the magentic attachments now too.

Is there some concern with flow direction when eliminating pumps for more powerful pumps with the sticks?

schminksbro

No matter what in a tank the size of mine a PH moving that kind of water will be pounding on something I don't want pounded. That is the problem. I would lose so much space trying to get my corals away from the pump. Or point it very strategically and not get flow where I want it. Then when the pivot wears a bit they drift.

Mike

I say we all invest in 10 foot tanks soon :)

schminksbro
11-08-2009, 10:14 PM
Goose, I would say yes.

schminksbro

My thought are that if I go tunze I am just trading what I have for a higher quality version with a higher prise tag. If I go with VT I will have similar quality but much better flow. Do you guys know what I mean?

schminksbro
11-08-2009, 10:18 PM
The price tag would likely be higher on the tunze because I would need 2 or more pumps as well.

Mike
11-08-2009, 10:18 PM
You have a point on that.

Mike
11-08-2009, 10:19 PM
For me it would be an experiment of sorts to try.

jimsflies

What you really need to do, Andy, is find a MP40 you can use for a couple weeks to make sure it's what you want.

schminksbro
11-08-2009, 10:20 PM
Do you know anyone who wants to lend me a $400 pump? lol

jimsflies
11-08-2009, 10:20 PM
You also get a controller included with the vortech that you don't get with the tunze.

jimsflies
11-08-2009, 10:21 PM
You never know...someone might have a loaner.

Mike
11-08-2009, 10:21 PM
I would have but I sold them

jimsflies
11-08-2009, 10:21 PM
maybe seashells could demo one for you...

jimsflies
11-08-2009, 10:22 PM
Hi Tom....

schminksbro
11-08-2009, 10:23 PM
I have spent alot of time observing my friends 180 with 2 MP40s.

schminksbro
11-08-2009, 10:24 PM
I seriously doubt Seashells would loan out a VT. Would you?

jimsflies
11-08-2009, 10:25 PM
well, if they had one that was open box, and it meant you'd likely buy one from them if you liked it...if it were my shop, I'd do it. But I can't say for them.

schminksbro
11-08-2009, 10:26 PM
Maybe I will have to become a dealer.........

schminksbro
11-08-2009, 10:27 PM
But then if I don't like the product..........

jimsflies
11-08-2009, 10:30 PM
that's why it'd likely need to be an open box deal for the demo anyway.

Maybe you could put one of your buddy's in your tank for a few minutes and verify whether it gives the flow pattern you are looking for?

schminksbro
11-08-2009, 10:31 PM
Maybe.....

schminksbro
11-08-2009, 10:32 PM
I think I am pretty convinced of the flow. It is really the quality that concerns me. With the tunze I am convinced of the quality but the flow concerns me. lol

jimsflies
11-08-2009, 10:34 PM
I agree with you.

I'm going to check out a couple other posts on CR. We'll post another topic for next week and have a discussion in another thread about how we like this feature and ways to improve.

Me too......
