thanks Rob..im going to post pics every month so i can come back to this thread and see the grow in.my bab bam's have already grown 2 new polyps since i changed t5 bulbs..oh yeah i forgot..the lighting is a 4 bulb t5 fixture with these bulbs from front to back

I have no idea..lol i will hav to ask the misses..she had it when we moved in together..i took over taking care of this tank in april and it was in there. It doesnt hurt corals so i left him in there.funny thing through.he doesnt get any bigger but he doesnt shrink either.

Looks like an oragne linikia star, they are super cool but not the most hardy.
However those other stars I see, you should try and get those out of there. Its a 50/50 risk with those bugers.

them little stars what do they do to the reef. they have been in there from the beginning, and they havent hurt anything yet.

I have found the larger white asterina stars are ok. The smaller grey mottled ones tend to be coral eaters. The white ones seem to eat algae.

water is still a little cloudy..i will take another one today after it clears up..or i rescape it again according to the opinions i get here..i am moving the powerhead to the back of the tank today.

I like this scape better than before. Only sugestion I have, is if possible, build up just a bit taller.

Nice shots Rick! :) if you can adjust the shutter speed at all - I'd try shooting faster (that might help with the light balance)

ok i have'nt posted here in awhile. my tank crashed and i think i found the culprit. i had a large turbo snail kick the bucket on me. I have had him over 3 years and he disappeared all the time for long periods of time, so i didnt think much about it. upon tearing the tank down i found his shell with him not in it. Thats the only thing i can think of. i got me another new test kit and tested the water an my phosphates were high so i contribute that to the red slime. Here are some pics of before i tore the tank down WARNING : the first 2 are not pretty.

ok after what i thought was the end of my crash i guess it wasnt. I lost everything except the frog spawn and it isnt looking to good right now. I lost the big RBTA that i was so proud of. So down the tank went again and this time it cycled. i tested the water and had RP test the water and its all good so here we go again.

ok well after another diaster..heater fried and cooked all my corals. im trying this again.. this is the first coral this time around..there are some frag plugs next to it they are zoas that probably arent going tpo make it so im not counting themas corals just yet until the verdict is in. let me know what you think of this lil guy.

From the way the tips look, I would say yes it's a frogspawn. If it was harvested near Australia, that's possible. Here's where they are found Indian and Pacific Oceans from Mozambique to the Red Sea, from Southern Japan to Australia and the Fiji Islands.

ok tomorrow this tank is getting a complete break down..after almost losing my favorite clown fish i have decided to take it down, bleach it and start all over again..i am also ditching the HOB filter on it and going with an HOB overflow with a sump. sump will be 20 gallon tall tank with baffles. Hopefully this will take care of the problem ive been having..i have already moved the corals and fish to a 15 gal take in the basement until this one cycles.. i will post pics of the process.

i tore the tank down...scrubbed the tank with vineagar and water solution..rinse tank throughly... added new live sand and re scaped the tank.. the HOB overflow isnt on yet because i dont have my sump yet..let me know what you think of the new scape..

i got the MH pendent above the tank this morning..its not hung yet, as it is sitting on 2 4x6 boards to see if i am going to like it.. the bulb is about 13 inches off the water surface and it gives me about as much light as my T5 fixture did so i think lowering it down about 3 inches will help..(not sure..never done MH lighting before) so let me know what you think..here are a few pics.

Since the last update , i have moved the tank again ..got a new entertainment system and it had to be moved..so i took the time to install a HOB overflow on the tank with a 10 gal sump and a wet/dry system ( thanks Andrew). I have carbon and filter floss in the top chamber of the wet/dry unit and seems to work pretty good. My ich problem is taken care of ..just waiting a few more weeks for the fish to get their new home back. here are a few pics.

The green sps doesnt look too hot though....so dont get to worried if it doesnt pull through. It doesnt seem to have a whole lot of life on it to begin with.

no color except for the edges that are purple..havent seen it extend any tenticles at feeding time either..

i finally decided to fix the hex..drained it down and sealed the spot it was leaking on.. i should have resealed the whole tank..but i just need it to hold for 3 more months then i getting a cube to put in its place and didnt have anywhere to put the rock or corals so i did the temp. fix..i made sure it bonded with the old silicone..gave it a couple layers also..its not leaking anymore...pics to come soon..it has changed..

Think im going with something smaller..Im kinda tired of getting my shoulder wet..i kinda like the looks of a shallower tank..that and i already have the lights for a smaller tank..

I also have this tank back on a sump system..I installed a aqua lifter pump to the overflow tube to keep the siphon going..by the end of the day i had things opening up that havent opened up in months..Pretty sure that has to do with changing flow in the tank. I will try to hone my photgraphic skills later today with some better pics.

I had a little mishap the other day..not bad one..just a tiny one..the damsels are starting to spawn i think and they are getting a little rough and knocked one of my rocks over which caused another one to go over..I re arranged the tank a little and glued everything down, so it cant move anymore..will try to get some pics up later today. The tank is still looking great BTW.

im going to try to get some more pics today..see if these are better than the last ones..but pics just dont do this tank justice..i am finally enjoying this tank..working on changing the tank, because of all the scratches on the front glass. Im going with a 50 breeder because thats all i have room for.I need to rplace the bottom glass on it (it got bumped and broke) , going to drill it for the drains, make the stand, and save up for a mh system for it as im sure this one wont light it like the corals want..it's going to take time getting all this stuff together but thats my future plans.

Tank is looking GOOD Rick!! I love those zoas right in the middle they have orange middles and green skirts. I have tried something that looked like that in my tank THREE times!! lol They don't survive. For some reason I really dont kill any other zoa. Oh well I will just have to enjoy them in your tank!! I love this Hex!
