I have a Aqua C Remora HOB skimmer. I got it used. I am running a MJ 1200 to run it. Been running for a month now.
Took a while to break in, but eventually started pulling a little skimate, but very soon stopped. I went to clean it out yesterday and found that its producing less than 1/2 the bubbles it should....
Still makes the same noises it always has, just very little bubble action. Anyone experiance this and have a cause??

i would put a mag on it, i forgot the number they recommend. A maxi jet has always been a little underrated for this skimmer

^ thats what I was thinking- the pump isnt pushing enough water to pull enough air....had the same issue not too long ago with a berlin skimmer.
I did use an older MJ pump. Might replace it with a newer one for now and see if it makes a difference, till I can get a mag drive to replace it.
Thanks for the info. Gonna switch around a couple pumps and see what happens.

Its a 3 they recommend, Mags are kind of big and bulky maybe look into rios or those smaller gen x pumps

Stay away from Rio, they leak black smootz into the tank and over heat.

Just hooked up a Rio HP 8- 550 gph pump. Gonna watch it and see how it works. Pretty big for this skimmer, but gonna see how it goes.

I have the ACR Pro and there is also a screw inside the pipe that you can take out and clean the pipe with a supplied pipe cleaner. The screw also acts as an adjustment for air/water intake.

Reeferrob- arent there only 2 rio's that leak the black junk? 2500 and one other?

Rabid- with the MJ pump, I played with the adjustment screw, and got no results as far as bubble differences.

The Pro comes with a Mag3 and I upgraded to the Mag5 with good results. If you have taken the screw out and cleaned the pipe that would lead me to believe your pump is underpowered as well.

Rabid-
When you upgraded to the mag 5, how did you attatch it? Is it noisey??
I got a mag 5 in the basement.

The same way the 3 was on, they have the same size outlet pipe. The 5 might be to much for you though. Isin't the regular ACR alot smaller then the Pro? (I think but I'm not sure)

The rio hf 8 seems to be working so far. Its quieted down already, and doesnt send too much flow as to cause any nuicence bubbles.
Just checked out the colection chamber, and I am in the initial stages of colecting skimate already!!!! I havnt colected a drop in 4 weeks! I am excited!
Now to keep an eye on it to adjust the colection cup as nesecary....hate to have an overflow.
I am so ready for a clean tank....

ok another question how deep in the tank is your pump also how far above the water line dose the pump have to push to get into the skimmer maby try adjusting these I had similar issue with a cpr hob skimmer shortened the tube going into the skimmer and problem fixed due to pump being shallower and less head for it to push into the skimmer

i posted the same skimmer in the Whats new with your tank thread, but i will post it again..that set screw is very delicate on where the skimmer wants it adjusted to get the maximum effeciency out of the skimmer..I have mine very shallow in the tank..It took me forever adjusting the collection cup and the set screw to get it right..My settings for mine are on th collection cup oring is 3/4 from the bottom and the set screw is from starting with the screw in your hand 8 1/2 turns in..i hope this helps..sounds like your getting there..definitely one ofthe hardest skmmers i have ever had to adjust.
