Hi Steve
Just saw that Reef Builders had posted some info on the new LED bar I asked you about the other day.
Now they state that it is a "LunarLED" not powered by a ballast. So is this light strictly for Lunar applications or will is assist in color pop with normal daylights running as well.
Also does the unit plug directly into the wall?
Oh, in case I forget I have a 24" tank just in case you want to sneak one into my Christmas stocking!!
Thanks ahead of time!!

The LunarLite arrays look like a T5 tube but operate off of a low voltage transformer, not a fluorescent ballast. They will plug directly into the wall outlet with one of those power "bricks".
I would imagine most people will run them almost 24/7. For me, they will probably come on at 6:00 AM and run until midnight. They are good for moonlights, but will help during the day with additional color pop.

Steven, any chance of seeing a LunarLite that will fit a T5 fixture?
Is that even doable?, a T5 tube that will fit inside a T5 fixture as a normal T5 bulb but will actually be LED's inside?
Powered by the fixture's fluorescent ballast?
That would be awesome!!!

P.S.
Will these have the same "glow" effect on corals as the Powerbrites by Current USA had?

It is technically possible. I have seen T8NO versions, but not T5HO ones.

Yes, these cause the green fluorescing proteins in corals to go into overdrive.

Okay, I've been out of the game for a bit and I'm lost here.
We are talking about LED's stuffed into a T-5 bulb and run off the ballast, is there another ballast or something to "rechange" the current of the electricity to run the LED's, and if so would that not just be a waste as opposed to plugging them straight in to the wall?

jojo22, they are stuffed into a T-5 "look alike", that uses an small external power adapter. What I was asking if it could infact be a reality that there would actually be a T-5 LED bulb that you could plug in a normal T-5 fixture.

Okay, I see. Do the ones they have now look like a t-5 and clip in?? I guess I don't see the whole point.

Steven, can 2 LunarLites plug into the same power "brick"?

These look sweet. Couple of questions...
Do they provide much/any PAR, and what kind of price point will they have?

In our fixtures, we have them wired to run multiple arrays with one power source, so it is possible. But, the retrofit kits we are offering each have one LED array with its own power adapter.

They do not provide a lot of PAR. They are mostly for supplemental lighting/color enhancement.
The prices are not firm yet, but ballpark the 2', 3', and 4' units will retail for about $60, $80, and $100 respectively.

Thanks for the reply. I've been interested in this type of lighting for a while, and having this type of tube available from a known and reputable US manufacturer is a huge plus for me. Now I just need to procure the funds to make it happen.

Steven how many LED are in the 24 inch tube exactly?
Are they 1/4 watters or 1/2 watts?

You can get these through Seashells in Warren or Preuss in Lansing.
